Error description

  • 'Used Space' parameter of command query dbspace requires
additional description as follow for Linux platform.

'Used Space' parameter shows greater value then used space shows
in Linux 'df -m' command since on Linux platform 5% of total
file system size is reserved for root (overhead) but not shown
    as used in command output.
Note: Same is applicable for 'Space Used by Database' parameter
    of command query db f=d

    Example:

    #df -m
Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/xyz 100790 67835 27835 71% /abc/db1

    .
    #query dbspace
    Location Total Space(MB) Used Space(MB) Free Space(MB)
    /abc/db1 100789 72,954 27,834
    .
So, here we have 72954 ? 67835=5119MB (~5GB) difference in DB
    used space.
Note: In above example /abc/db1 is a dedicated volume for
    TSM database

Problem conclusion

  • In the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Reference, the
"QUERY DBSPACE (Display database storage space)" section will
be updated to change the description of the "Space Used on
    Filesystem (MB)" field.

For the AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris platforms, the
following note will be added: "When you run the QUERY DBSPACE
command, the value in the output might be greater than the
value that is obtained by running the df system command. The
output from the df system command does not include the amount
of space that is reserved for the root user."

For the Linux platform only, this note will be added: "If you
run the df system command, the default percentage of space
that is reserved for the root user is 5%. You can change this
    default value."

Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux.
