Error description

  • Problem description:
The utilization percentage for a sequential storage pool volume
could be incorrect leading to various symptoms dependent
on the current state of the volume. For instance, if a volume
shows 0% utilization but still has
files stored on the volume, the following messages could be
issued when the volume is attempted for
    deletion:

    ANR0195W Attempting to remove extraneous
    database entries for volume xxxxxxxx.
    (SESSION:XXXX, PROCESS: XXX)
ANR0199W Not possible to repair volume
    xxxxxxxx due to other
    database references to this volume.
    (SESSION: XXXXXXX, PROCESS:XXX)
ANR0197E Removal of extraneous database entries
for volume xxxxxxxx failed due to
contention with other server processes or activities.
    (SESSION: XXXXXXX, PROCESS: XXX)

If a volume is showing 0% utilization, and empty, is mounted for
    write operation, the following
    error message could be issued:

    ANR9999D FetchVolAttr(asvolacq.c:XXXX)
    Thread<XXXXXX>: Attempt to overwrite segment
on volume XXXX with maxOcc=0, nextSeq XXXX. (SESSION:
    XXXXXX, PROCESS: XXXX)

The volume will always show 0% but contain data when this
    condition has been met.

    L2/development Analysis:
The problem is that the database row fetch cache is being
    improperly managed under very
rare circumstances. This leads to utilization being lower than
    it should be for the
amount of data stored on the volume.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager Server version 6.x on all platform
    Initial Impact:
    Medium

    Additional Keywords:
    empty volume delete ANR0195W ANR0197E

Local fix

  • Turn the fetch cache off for the AS.Volume.Status table (set
    fetchcachesize). This has
to be done each time a server is restarted.

    set fetchcachesize 0 AS.Volume.Status
