IC83779: AUTOCONF FAILS TO CREATE DEVICES ON SOLARIS 10 UPDATE 10 OR SOLARIS 10 PATCH 144500-19

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Tivoli Storage Manager device driver utility autoconf fails to
  create devices on Solaris 10 update 10 or Solaris 10 with  patch
  144500-19   Oracle made change via 144500-19 that a SCSI device
  can only be controlled/configured by the Solaris generic driver.
  It does not allow a third party SCSI driver  or example : Tivoli
  Storage Manager Device driver to configure a SCSI device. As a
  result, documented steps in configure Tivoli Storage manager
  devices on Solaris fails to create mt or lb device.
  

Local fix

• Remove sgen, lb and mt drivers from kernel
  
  rem_drv sgen
  rem_drv lb
  rem_drv mt
  
  
  Make a copy of lb.conf  and mt.conf  and modify it with the
  following entries
  
  edit /usr/kernel/drv/lb.conf
  comment out the old library entries and add a new entry:
  name="lb" class="scsi-self-identifying";
  
  edit /usr/kernel/drv/mt.conf
  comment out the old library entries and add a new entry:
  name="mt" class="scsi-self-identifying";
  
  Make a copy of /etc/system and modify it to prevent sgen from
  loading at system boot time
  
  edit /etc/system
  add the line:
  exclude: sgen
  
  Reboot
  
  After reboot, reload lb and mt
  
  cd /opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin
  ./autoconf
  
  or
  
  add_drv -i '"scsiclass,08"' -v -m '* 0666 bin bin' lb
  add_drv -i '"scsiclass,01"' -v -m '* 0666 bin bin' mt
