Error description

  • This APAR needs to implement a workaround for an external
Brocade Defect "DEFECT000304478" that will cause a mismatch
between the performance data displayed in TPC and the
Brocade Element Manager or SAN Health.
In TPC initially the code worked correctly, but then we changed
it so that it would match the output of what Brocade calls the
    "webtools" performance.
Now that it has been determined that this output is incorrect,
it means the TPC code is also incorrect.

8b/10b encoding is not taken into account in webtools
performance data while it is with SAN Health. Brocade has
    created DEFECT000304478 for this issue.

Problem conclusion

  • TPC was incorrectly adjusted in 4.1.1 to match the encoding
used by Brocade's WebTools application. However, that has
now been determined to be incorrect and does not match with
Brocade's SAN Health application. Brocade DEFECT000304478
has been opened to correct that. Meanwhile, TPC needs to be
corrected to use the correct encoding with the performance
metrics it reports. The fix for this APAR is targeted for
    the following maintenance packages:

    | fix pack | 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-FP0005 - target October 2010

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21320822

The target dates for future fix packs do not represent a formal
commitment by IBM. The dates are subject to change without
    notice.

     | <MDVREGR 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-GA | 4.1.1.55
     | <MDVREGR 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-FP0001 | 4.1.1.66
     | <MDVREGR 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-FP0002 | 4.1.1.74
     | <MDVREGR 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-FP0003 | 4.1.1.84
     | <MDVREGR 4.1.1-TIV-TPC-IF0001 | 4.1.1.85

Even with the TPC change, the Brocade discrepancy will still
be apparent when comparing values between their WebTools and
SAN Health applications, until they resolve that.
