Error description
DETAIL OF PROBLEM: TPC Data/Fabric agents installed on SAN-attached filesystems on HPUX 11.11 servers fail to start at system boot due to the agent start script being called before the SAN-attached drives re-attach to the server. When the startup process is initiated on HPUX and the /sbin/rc script is invoked, a list of scripts is created containing all the scripts that are going to be executed during boot sequence, from all the involved run levels. Scripts are only added to this list if the scripts referenced by symbolic links actually physically exist on the system. Since the Common Agent statup script is not available at that point due to the SAN disk not being mounted yet, the script does not get included in the list, and thus the Common Agent does not start during bootup. A code change is being made that modifies the data agent/fabric agent installers to dynamically generate the startup script and modify the rc.X links. The script is a wrapper which calls the common agent startup script and will be put in the HPUX server's /etc/init.d file; the way its currently written, it cannot put itself in /etc/init.d during install. RECREATE STEPS: Install A TPC Data and/or Fabric agent on SAN-attached disk on an HPUX server then reboot. The common agent process will not be launched. ________________________________________________________________ DB2 Version used for Server: N/A The defect is against component: 5608TC300 Server/Manager build/release (TPC): 4.1.1.66 Agent build/release (TPC): 4.1.1.66 Server/Manager (OS): N/A Agent (OS): HPUX 11.11 ________________________________________________________________ Problem as described by customer: HPUX agents do not start automatically at boot time. Problem conclusion
Create a script in /sbin/init.d/ to start the Common Agent. Regenerate following links to point to this script: /sbin/rc0.d/K71itca0 /sbin/rc3.d/S71itca0 /sbin/rc4.d/S71itca0 The fix for this APAR is targeted for the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 4.1.1-TIV-TPC - FP0005 - target October 2010 | fix pack | 3.3.2-TIV-TPC - FP0010 - target not yet set http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21320822 The target dates for future fix packs do not represent a formal commitment by IBM.
