Error description

  • The Tivoli storage Manager server may crash during expire
    inventory process and returns the following errors.

    ANR0175E dbieval.c(920): Space exhausted for one or more of the
    following: DB, LOG, or instance directory
    ANR0162W Supplemental databse diagnostic information:

    system is full.(SQLSTATE=57011).

    ANS8002I Highest return code was -50

    There is no Crash Dump file generated. The table space
    "LGTMPTSP" is growing up rapidly during the expiration process
    filling the file system and resulting into TSM server. crash.

Local fix

  • 1) Add more space to the TSM server database using the EXTEND
    DBSPACE command.
    2) Halt/restart the server - the ability to grow temp space
    (such as LGTMPTSP) may not occur if the temp space is currently
    in-use. In order to ensure that the temp space can grow into the
    new defined space the halt/restart of the server is needed.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A database query used by EXPIRE *
    * INVENTORY can cause database temporary *
    * space usage to increase dramatically. *
    * In some cases, it can consume all *
    * available database space and force *
    * the server to terminate. *
    *                                                              *
    * In cases where the server does not *
    * terminate, expiration performance is *
    * degraded because the database query *
    * can take a long time to produce *
    * results. While the server is waiting *
    * for results from the query, expiration *
    * processes will appear to hang: *
    * - QUERY PROCESS shows no progress *
    *                        being made                            *
    *                      - CANCEL PROCESS commands are           *
    *                        ignored                               *
    * - The DURATION parameter has no *
    *                        effect                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the fixing level when available. This *
    * problem is currently projected to be fixed *
    *                 in levels 6.1.4, 6.2.1.1, and 6.2.2. Note    *
    * that this is subject to change at the *
    *                 discretion of IBM.                           *

Problem conclusion

  • The database query will be modified to return results sooner,
    and not to require as much temporary database space.

    Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux, and
    Windows.
