Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager Backup/Archive client can hang
    for a long period of time when backing up to a 6.1 or
    higher server.
    When a directory is encountered with a large number of
    objects, the Backup/Archive client can hang until it
    ends abnormally either by cancelling or by timing out
    and causing ANR0530I on the TSM server.
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    6.1 servers on all platforms
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    A trace with the DBCLI trace class may show multiple long
    running queries for the client which hangs:

Local fix

  • Exclude the directory or directories which the Backup/Archive
    client is processing when the hang occurs. Alternately, use
    selective backup or the incrbydate option until a fixis
    available.
