IC67333: DSMSCOUTD CAN INCORRECTLY GENERATE ANS9084E ERRORS IN MULTI-NODE GPFS CLUSTERS

Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management (HSM) dsmscoutd
    may incorrectly issue the following error to the dsmerror.log:
    .
      ANS9084E dsmscoutd: /filesystem is not managed or not locally
               managed by space management.
    .
    In some environments, these errors can be reported multiple
    times per second across every non-owner GPFS node in the
    cluster.  This can cause the dsmerror.log files to grow in
    size very quickly.
    .
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    Review the dsmerror.log files on each node in the cluster.  If
    ANS9084E errors are being reported constantly, this problem
    can apply.

Local fix

  • Reduce distributed migrations if possible and implement
    dsmerror.log pruning options to limit the size of the file
    (ERRORLOGRETENTION and ERRORLOGMAX) until a fixing level
    can be applied.

    Upon a distributed migration in a multi-node GPFS cluster
    environment, a lot of misleading ANS9084E errors may be issued
    in the dsmerror.log.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been fixed so that it no longer occurs.
    

Temporary fix

  • An interim fix is currently targeted for version 6.1.3.4. Note
    that until the interim fix is actually available, this
    information is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
