Error description

  • Expiration processing performance of archived data can degrade
    over time as directory objects are added to the TSM server, but
    not deleted, even though they are not referenced anymore.

    This problem only occurs when using the backup/archive client to
    archive filesystem data. The TSM API is not affected.

    TSM Versions Affected: All 6.1 servers/platforms.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    Tracing the server with IMEXP DBSTMT traceflags will return
    output similiar to the following:
    HH:MM:SS.TTT [XXXXX][imdmgr.c][2634][ExpireArchiveData]:
      ExpirationProcessThread: Calling fetchNext.
    HH:MM:SS.TTT [XXXXX][tbcli.c][4130][RdbPrepareAndExecuteStmt]:
      Executing statement 'SELECT NODEID,FSID,OBJTYPE,HL,LL,INSDATE,
      OBJID,RETINIT_DATE,OBJINFO,BFSIZE,BKSETRET,HELD,VOLDATEGMT,
      ALIASOF FROM "TSMDB1"."ARCH_EXPDIRS" WHERE (NODEID=? AND
      FSID=? AND OBJTYPE=? AND OBJID>=? AND RETINIT_DATE<=? AND
      MCID=? AND CGID=?) FOR READ ONLY WITH UR --35799' submitted
      from imdmgr.c(2636).
    HH:MM:SS.TTT [XXXXX][tbcli.c][4635][RdbFetchAndGetNextResponse]:
     Performing fetch for imdmgr.c(2636) : 'SELECT NODEID,FSID,
     OBJTYPE,HL,LL,INSDATE,OBJID,RETINIT_DATE,OBJINFO,BFSIZE,
     BKSETRET,HELD,VOLDATEGMT, ALIASOF FROM "TSMDB1"."ARCH_EXPDIRS"
     WHERE (NODEID=? AND FSID=? AND OBJTYPE=? AND OBJID>=? AND
     RETINIT_DATE<=? AND MCID=? AND CGID=?) FOR READ ONLY WITH UR
     --35799'

    Initial Impact: Medium

Local fix

  • Run expiration processing with the SKIPDIRS=YES parameter to
    shorten processing time if needed.
