APAR status

Error description

  • The installation of the 6.1 Tivoli Storage Manager reporting
    and monitoring feature on AIX and Linux will attempt to create
    and write to:
       /home/db2inst1
    If the directory can not be created or written to, the install
    attempt can fail with errors in db2setup.log.   The default
    location of db2setup.log is here:
      /opt/tivoli/tsm/reporting/_uninst/plan/tmp/db2setup.log
    The following errors may be seen in db2setup.log if this
    problem occurs:
    ERROR:One or more errors occurred while committing the changes
    to the user "db2inst1".  Create or make any changes to this
    user manually.
    ERROR:An error occurred while creating the instance "db2inst1".
    The return code is "HOME_DIRECTORY_DOES_NOT_EXIST". Create the
    instance manually using the command "db2icrt".
    ERROR:An error occurred while configuring the instance
    "db2inst1".

Local fix

  • Make sure /home/db2inst1 does not exist, but can be created
    before installing the 6.1 Tivoli Storage Manager reporting
    and monitoring feature.

Problem conclusion

  • This problem was fixed in the installer.
    The installer on AIX and Linux platforms will check the
    accessibility of /home, if it is read-only then the installer
    will produce an error message and terminate.
