APAR status

Error description

  • The problem is found while using the MicroBroker Java Message
Service (JMS) client that extends the common client module of
WebSphere MQ, but also occurs in the WebSphere MQ classes for
    JMS.

A hang condition occurs if the MessageConsumer.close() method
is called whilst a message is being processed by an associated
    message listener.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of WebSphere MQ classes for JMS or
MicroBroker who utilise asynchronous message delivery

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The hang condition arises as the asynchronous message delivery
thread holds a lock that the MessageConsumer.close method
requires to complete. The MessageConsumer.close method also
holds a lock that prevents any calls to the underlying JMS
Session from completing. If a call to the JMS Session is made
from the onMessage method, such as commit(), this will block and
prevent the onMessage method from completing, so a hang
    condition arises.

Problem conclusion

  • The locking model has been altered to prevent the problem from
    occurring.
