Error description

  • In WebSphere MQ v7.x, a QueueBrowser.getEnumeration() call
    returns only a subset of messages from the queue - those which
    have not been previously browsed. The same is true if more than
    one QueueBrowser is sharing the same session/destination. Each
    will get a set of messages that were not previously browsed.

    In WebSphere v6.x, the full set of messages is returned each
    time the getEnumeration() called.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects WebSphere MQ v7.x classes for Java Message
    Service (JMS) applications that create multiple QueueBrowser
    objects for the same session.

    Platforms affected:
    All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    When multiple QueueBrower objects are created for a single
    session, all the queue browser objects share the same queue
    handle. When the browsing, the queue handle advances only
    further instead of resetting to the top of the queue. Hence,
    when the getEnumeration() call is invoked, the browser will get
    the next available messages in the queue but not the
    messages from the top of the queue.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ client has been updated to ensure each
    enumeration created from a QueueBrowser starts from the top of
    the queue.
