Error description

  • APAR IC62304 describes a problem where backups to a disk storage
    pool with caching enabled can fail if the storage pool is full
    of cached data.
    Even if the fix for APAR IC62304 has been applied, there is a
    small window where backups of (very) large files to such a disk
    storage pool can still fail with the same symptoms.

    Usually there is no message seen in the ACTLOG at this time, but
    the above message may be accompanied by "ANS1329S - server out
    of storage space" (but not necessarily).

Local fix

  • Empty the affected storage pool manually using the following
    command against all volumes in the pool:
    MOVE DATA <volume_name>
    and set "Cache migrated data" to NO to avoid the storage pool to
    fill up and backups to fail again.
