Error description

  • When attempting to migrate data from a disk storage pool with
caching enabled to a FILE storage pool that has been enabled for
deduplication, the following errors may be seen:

       ANR9999D SelectCluster(dfmigr.c:2700) Thread<199485>: Process
999 detected a discrepancy in the database for cluster
       srvId=0, ck1=99 while migrating from pool DISKPOOL(1).
       ANR9999D Thread<199485> issued message 9999 from:

These errors occur because the deduplication process is
erroneously creating/updating cluster information for the cached
bitfiles in the disk storage pool. As a result, the migration
process is attempting to migrate cached bitfiles. These errors
do not prevent data from being successfully migrated to the FILE
    storage pool.

    Platforms affected:
    All TSM 6.1.x Servers

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
A trace (DF flag) of the failing migration process will show
attempts to migrate an empty cluster, similar to the following:

       [dfmigr.c][2791][MigrateCluster]:Process 999 migrating
       cluster srvId=0, ck1=99 for pool DISKPOOL(1).
       [dfutil.c][825][DfLockBfRootTracked]:Acquiring lock (sLock)
on bitfile root. Called from dfmigr.c(2870).
       [dfutil.c][865][DfUnlockBfRootTracked]:Releasing lock on
       bitfile root. Called from dfmigr.c(2881).
       [dfmigr.c][2885][MigrateCluster]:Empty cluster detected
       [dfmigr.c][4971][ReleaseCluster]:Process 999 releasing
cluster srvId=0, ck1=99 for migration from pool DISKPOOL(1).

    Additional Keywords:
    dedup deduplication cache tsm

Local fix

  • To ensure that all data is successfully migrated, increase the
number of migration processes available for the disk storage
    pool:

       UPDATE STGPOOL <poolname> MIGPR=2

To prevent these migration errors from occurring, either of the
    following actions can be performed:

       1. Disable caching for disk storage pool, or
       2. Disable deduplication for FILE storage pool
