Error description

  • A utility called tsmdiag to aid support for the Tivoli Storage
    Manager can delete data unexpectedly if the -results
    option is used.
    -
    For example:
    $ ls /tmp/testdirectory
    file_not_to_delete
    $ ./tsmdiag -results /tmp/testdirectory/

    archive; not dumped
    $ ls /tmp/testdirectory
    DEVDRIVER  SERVER  SYSTEM  tsmdiag_results.tar
    -
    In this case, the file called file_not_to_delete was deleted
    by the tsmdiag utility.

    Server versions 5.4, 5.5 and 6.1

Local fix

  • Use the tsmdiag utility only at the recommendation of Tivoli
    Storage Manager support personel. The default behavior for
    tsmdiag is to create a directory called "results" in the
    current directory and delete all data in it. If the
    -results option is used, point it to a newly created,
    empty directory.
