Error description

  • A TSM Server migration process may fail due to the fact
that a reclamation process has been spawned by the migration
process and there is not enough space in the storage pool
    to reclaim a volume.
    .
    Reclamation threshholds are checked
by default when an automatic (threshhold) migration process
is started. If there are volumes that need to be reclaimed, the
migration process will attempt to reclaim those volumes prior to
migrating any data to the next storage pool. If the reclamation
of the volume(s) fail, the migration process will fail and no
data will be migrated out of the storage pool.
    .
These are the typical messages associated with this type of
    failure:
    .
ANR1000I Migration process XXX started for storage pool
    XXXXXXXX
ANR1040I Space reclamation started for volume XXXX, storage pool
    XXXXXX
ANR4520I Storage Pool XXXXXX is being skipped during a
space allocation. A request for XXX megabytes was made but only
    XXX megabytes were available.
ANR1086E Space reclamation is ended for volume XXXX
There is insufficient space in storage pool.
ANR1025W Migration process XXX terminated for storage pool
XXXXXXX - insufficient space in subordinate storage pool.
    .
NOTE: This problem will not affect the migrate stgpool command
if the default "reclaim" value is used (reclaim=no).
    .
Platforms affected: All TSM 5.3 and 5.4 TSM Servers
    .
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    None
    .
    Initial Impact: Medium

                         MSGANR1086E

Local fix

  • 1) Set the reclaim threshhold to 100% for the storage pool being
    migrated.
    2) Use the migrate stgpool command with reclaim=no (default) to
    prevent reclamation from starting.

    ****************************************************************
Under certain conditions, migration process may
fail with ANR1025W and ANR1086 due to there is
not enough space in the storage pool to reclaim
a volume for a reclaimation initiated from the
    migration process.
