IC50214: "ERROR DETERMINING TYPE OF CURRENT VIEW." WHEN TRYING TO WORK WHILE DISCONNECTED FROM THE CLEARCASE NETWORK

APAR status

  • Closed as Permanent restriction.

Error description

  • Customer pulls the network cable from a ClearCase LT 7.0
    client and works disconnected
from the Clearcase LT server. When they do this, the
    following error appears
regardless of what type of VS.NET 2005 projects are a part of
    the solution.
The following error occurs everytime for each project that is a
    part of the solution.

"Error determining type of current view."

This only occurs when a client tries to work disconnected from
    the network.

To reproduce the issue, the following steps are below:

    Clearcase LT 7.0.0
    1) Either uncheck or check the Connect to Rational Clearcase in
    the Clearcase control Panel.
    2) Unplug the network cable or your connection to the CC LT
    server.
    3) In VS.NET 2005, try to open up a solution in a view by either
File->Open or trying to use the Front Desk.
    4) Error occurs 100% of the time.

Local fix

  • The error occurs and you just click through it and the
    developers
are allowed to work the solution. The error populates and the
    developers
hit Ok. Two or three seconds later you get the next one for the
    next project.

Problem summary

  • User pulls the network cable from a ClearCase LT 7.0
    client
and works disconnected from the Clearcase LT server.
    When they
do this, the following error appears regardless of
    what type of
VS.NET 2005 projects are a part of the
    solution. The following
     error occurs everytime for each
    project that is a
    part of the
    solution,

         "Error determining type of
    current v
    iew."

Problem conclusion

  • There are currently no plans to fix this defect. Users can
continue working on .NET and it only happens when opening
the project. And more importantly, we don't think there is
an easy way to determine that the view is not available when
    the cable is disconnected.
