This page provides descriptions of Firmware upgrades and Software Test utilities for IBM® FlashSystem™ 840 and IBM FlashSystem 900.

The firmware upgrades for FlashSystem 840 and FlashSystem 900 contains two pieces of code.
The first piece is the Test Utility. This is used to perform low level checks to ensure a successful start on the firmware load process. For FlashSystem 840, this Utility interacts differently depending on the firmware level.
The second piece is the firmware upgrade itself. It is a compressed and encrypted file that is downloaded in a single file form to upgrade all components of the FlashSystem 840 or FlashSystem 900. Loading this is the same across all firmware releases.

If updating FROM 1.1.2.2 or below:
The GUI has a two step process.
The Test Utility is run first and validated. Then the firmware upgrade is downloaded and installed.
Note: This only applies to the FlashSystem 840.

If updating FROM 1.1.2.6 or above for FlashSystem 840 and all versions of FlashSystem 900:
Both the Test Utility and the firmware are downloaded from Fix Central to your workstation. After the download, follow instructions given on the GUI.
