Vulnerability Details

OpenSSL is used in IBM Storwize V7000 Unified for providing communication security by encrypting data being transmitted.

CVEID: CVE-2016-0800

DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions. By using a server that supports SSLv2 and EXPORT cipher suites as a Bleichenbacher RSA padding oracle, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to decrypt TLS sessions between clients and non-vulnerable servers. This vulnerability is also known as the DROWN attack.

Affected Products and Versions

IBM Storwize V7000 Unified
The product is affected when running code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.3 and 1.6.0.0 to 1.6.0.1

Remediation/Fixes

A fix for these issues is in version 1.5.2.4 and 1.6.1.0 of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified. Customers running an affected version of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified should upgrade to 1.5.2.4 or 1.6.1.0 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.

Workarounds and Mitigations

Workaround(s): None

Mitigation(s): SSLv2 is not offered in IBM Storwize V7000 Unified. Hence possibility of V7000 Unified being affected by this security issue is only if private keys of V7000 Unified are shared on any other server that allows SSLv2 connections. Although IBM recommends that you install a level of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified code with a fix, you can avoid this vulnerability by not sharing private keys of V7000 Unified on any other server that allows SSLv2 connections.
