Loss of Access When Using Hitachi Storage Systems With V6.4.1.2 and V1.4

Flash (Alert)

Abstract

An issue has been identified that will cause a loss of access to all managed disks on some Hitachi storage systems when running SAN Volume Controller V6.4.1.2, Storwize V7000 V6.4.1.2 or Storwize V7000 Unified V1.4

Content

V6.4.1.2 of SVC and Storwize V7000 software, and V1.4 of Storwize V7000 Unified will be unable to communicate with managed disks on any Hitachi storage systems which use the SCSI Inquiry Data "DF600F"

The list of affected Hitachi storage systems include, but are not limited to:

  • AMS 2500
  • AMS 2100

To check if any storage systems connected to your SVC or Storwize V7000 system could be affected, run the svcinfo lscontroller command and look for the look for the string "DF600F" in the output, as in the example below.

id controller_name ctrl_s/n vendor_id product_id_low product_id_high
6 controller6 830124870000 2B HITACHI DF600F

The SAN Volume Controller and Storwize V7000 upgrade test utility version 9.6 or later will check for affected storage systems when upgrading to V6.4.1.2. The Storwize V7000 Unified upgrade test utility will be updated in the near future.

If you are using one of the affected storage systems then you should not upgrade to V6.4.1.2 or V1.4

Any customer who has upgraded and experienced an issue with these controllers should contact IBM Support for a recovery action plan.

This issue was resolved by APAR IC89206 in the V6.4.1.3 PTF release
This issue is also fixed in IBM Storwize V7000 Unified V1.4.0.2
