Significant recovery improvements for PCIe fabric triggered events available with R6.2 bundles (DS8700 - 76.20.xx.xx and DS8800 - 86.20.xx.xx) resulting in a 2x availability improvement as well as part isolation & replacement improvements. Since these improvements have such a significant improvement in availability, this My Notification was developed to reinforce the existing service driven ECA activities and help encourage clients to upgrade to R6.2.
Several key deliverables in R6.2
- Improved isolation and recovery of PCIe errors
- Changes in PCIe Bay error recovery enable faster recovery and prevention of loss of access and potential loss of data scenarios
- Reduction in Host Adapter and Device Adapter replacements
Phase 1, IBM started ECA 826 for DS8700 for loading R6.2 bundle code. The initial bundle available was 126.96.36.199.
Phase 2, Incremental PCIe improvements have been delivered, and thus the ECA 826 recommended go to level is being upgraded to 188.8.131.52.
Clients having DS8800s not yet on a release 6.2 code bundle (86.20.xx.xx) and considering updating to R6.2 code are recommended to go to level of 184.108.40.206 or higher to take advantage of all of the improvements mentioned above. DS8800s are not part of mandatory ECA 826 because DS8800 field reliability and availability has been excellent for almost all clients.
