Global Mirror Relationships With Change Volumes Must Be Stopped Before Reading From Secondary Volumes

Troubleshooting

Problem

When using Global Mirror with Change Volumes, ensure that the relationship is stopped before attempting to perform read I/O to the secondary volume, either from a host or by starting a FlashCopy. This will ensure that the data read from the secondary volume is consistent.

Resolving The Problem

This restriction applies to 6.3.0.x software levels only. Version 6.4.0.0 and later provide a consistent image on the secondary volume while the relationship is in the 'consistent_copying' state, removing the requirement to stop the relationship before performing read I/O.
