What are the limitations to consider when planning the storage configuration to use the /CIFS protocol for file access?
Answer
The Storwize V7000 Unified system can manage a combination of internal and external storage.
When setting up SMB / Common Internet File System (CIFS) file access, consider the following limitation:
For Storwize V7000 Unified V1.3.X.X and V1.4.X.X:
- CIFS/SMB access is supported only for filesystems placed on Storwize V7000 internal storage.
For Storwize V7000 Unified V1.5.X.X:
- CIFS/SMB access is supported only for filesystems placed on Storwize V7000 internal storage or external storage provided by IBM FlashSystem 820, IBM FlashSystem 840 or FlashSystem 900.
For Storwize V7000 Unified V1.6.0.0 and later:
- CIFS/SMB access is supported only for filesystems placed on Storwize V7000 internal storage or external storage provided by
- IBM FlashSystem 820, IBM FlashSystem 840 or FlashSystem 900
- IBM Storwize V3700 or V5000
- Netapp N-Series
- EMC VNX
