Do Not Perform Hardware Maintenance Operations Immediately Following an Upgrade to IBM Storwize V7000 V6.1.0.x

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

Storwize V7000 node canisters may be taken offline if hardware maintenance is performed in the period immediately following an upgrade to V6.1.0.x.

Content

The Storwize V7000 V6.1.0.1 and V6.1.0.4 upgrade packages include a number of hardware component firmware upgrades, which are performed after the main software upgrade process has reported completion in the Event Log. The starting of these firmware upgrades is indicated by the following event in the Event Log:

984501: Enclosure component firmware update started

These upgrades will typically complete within two hours of the software upgrade process completing.

If hardware maintenance is performed while these firmware upgrades are in process, this may result in node canisters being taken offline, possibly leading to host access loss.

If there is a requirement to perform hardware maintenance following an upgrade to V6.1.0.x, please wait until the following event is logged in the Event Log, which indicates that all firmware upgrades have completed:

984502: Enclosure component firmware update completed

Once this event has been logged, it will then be safe to proceed with any required hardware maintenance activities.
