1. IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager does not launch from Alert Log node
This error occurs when you try to start the DS Storage Manager for IBM System Storage DS3000, IBM System Storage DS4000, or IBM System Storage DS5000 from the Alert Log node in IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center.
You receive this error message and the DS Storage Manager does not start:
One IP address has been detected in this action request. If another IP connection to the alternate controller is available, please add the address to your provider. Single access paths may not allow actions to complete as desired.
This error occurs because the DS Storage Manager cannot persistently resolve the IP address of the storage system when you start the DS Storage Manager from the Alert Log node. To resolve the problem, start the DS Storage Manager from the topology viewer.
2. Microsoft Internet Explorer is not available
Microsoft Internet Explorer is not available from the SSPC desktop or by clicking Start -> All Programs. To enable Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator.
-
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click
Continue.
3. At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:
-
Tip: The string Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64 is case-sensitive.
4. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
3. Starting an element manager generates "Secure connection failed" message
If you start an element manager by using the Mozilla Firefox(TM) browser, the message Secure Connection Failed is displayed. To start the element manager, follow these steps:
1. At the bottom of the Secure Connection Failed message, click Or you can add an exception.
2. When the message refreshes, click Add Exception.
3. In the Add Security Exception window, click Get Certificate.
4. When the window refreshes, click Confirm Security Exception. A window opens for you to start an element manager.
4. Known issues for IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center
53392
When you upgrade the Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center license and have LDAP authentication, the installation program displays incorrect information.
Problem:
The installation program instructs the user to change the role-to-group mappings to use OS groups. If you enter OS groups in this panel, your LDAP groups are no longer mapped to Tivoli Storage Productivity Center roles. As a result, the LDAP user assigned as TPC Superuser in the original installation would no longer have TPC Superuser privileges, and you would have no user with the authority to restore the original role-to-group mapping.
Work around:
Do not make any changes to the Role-To-Group mapping. Click Next to continue.
If you have already changed the role-to-group mapping during a license upgrade and can no longer log into Tivoli Storage Productivity Center as TPC Superuser to restore the LDAP groups on the Role-to-Group mapping panel, contact IBM Software Support.
53120 - DS Storage Manager limitation Release 5.1.5
You cannot create a Storage Authentication Service (SAS) policy or modify an SAS policy to upload a truststore file using the DS Storage Manager.
For more information, see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003715.
53474 - Upgrading Tivoli Storage Productivity Center
When you upgrade Tivoli Storage Productivity Center version 4.2.1 to a fix pack, you are required to run the tipChangeHostName script in substep 2c of the procedure titled "Upgrading Tivoli Storage Productivity Center." However, when you run the script, you encounter the following error and you are unable to change the host name:
-
[15:19:30 tipChangeHostName] Error occurred when changing the hostname for DE server.
-
The script failed to complete. Please see logs in <TIP_HOME>/logs/tipChangeHostName.log
Substep 2c is located on page 136 of the IBM System Storage Productivity Center 1.5 User's Guide and in the IBM System Storage Productivity Center 1.5 Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v4r1/topic/com.ibm.sspc_v15.doc/fqz0_r_sspc_upgrading_tpc.html.
To correct the error, replace substep 2c with the following new substep 2c, so that step 2 and its substeps read as follows:
2. Before continuing this procedure, perform the following steps to change the configuration of the Tivoli Integrated Portal so that it has the SSPC computer name that you want and not the SSPC computer name that was assigned by IBM Manufacturing.
a. Open a command prompt window and change the directory to C:\Program Files\IBM\tivoli\tip\bin.
b. Type wsadmin -lang jython -c AdminControl.stopServer('server1') and press Enter.
c. Download and replace C:\Program Files\IBM\Tivoli\tip\bin\tipChangeHostName.py from ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/TPC/fixes/V4.2.1/4.2.1-TIV-TPC-FP0001/SSPC_1.5/.
d. Type tipChangeHostName -h hostname where hostname is the computer name of the SSPC server. Press Enter.
e. Verify that the Tivoli Integrated Portal has stopped by opening C:\Program
Files\IBM\tivoli\tip\profiles\TIPProfile\logs\server1\server1.pid. If Tivoli Integrated Portal is stopped, the file does not exist. If the file exists, it contains the process ID of Tivoli Integrated Portal which you can use in the Task Manager to stop Tivoli Integrated Portal.
f. Restart the SSPC server.
5. Remediation for Java security issue
During the first week of February 2011, a critical class library security vulnerability was blogged on the Internet and is now in the public domain. The issue is that the Java Runtime Environment hangs when it converts 2.2250738585072012e-308 to a binary floating-point number. To remedy this vulnerability with Tivoli Storage Productivity Center and SSPC, follow the instructions provided at:
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21469084
6. Do not update SSPC with a device driver for IBM System x3550
Device drivers that are provided on IBM Technical Support websites for the IBM System x3550 server might not be suitable for IBM System Storage Productivity Center (SSPC), and might impact its ability to function normally. Do not upgrade the SSPC server with the x3550 device driver. IBM will notify you whenever the SSPC device driver must be upgraded. The notification will be made through the IBM Flash, and will provide instructions about how you can obtain the device driver through the SSPC Support website.
To clarify customer responsibilities associated with upgrading the SSPC device driver, in IBM documentation modify the first Important notice in the topic titled "Identifying responsibilities for maintaining, upgrading, and configuring the SSPC server." This topic appears in the following locations:
- IBM System Storage Productivity Center Version 1.5 User's Guide, page 23
- IBM System Storage Productivity Center Version 1.5 Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v4r1/topic/com.ibm.sspc_v15.doc/fqz0_r_sspc_customer_responsibility.html
In the documentation, change the first Important notice to an Attention notice that reads as follows:
Attention: As a best practice, install a backup and antivirus solution on the SSPC, in addition to maintaining the operating system with regular patches. Do not install device drivers or software other than the base SSPC installation, backup, and antivirus software. Device drivers that are provided on IBM Technical Support websites for the IBM System x3550 server might not be suitable for the SSPC server, and might impact its ability to function normally. Do not upgrade the SSPC server with the System x3550 device driver. IBM will notify you whenever the SSPC device driver must be upgraded. The notification will be made through the IBM Flash, and will provide instructions about how you can obtain the device driver through the SSPC Support website.

a. The SSPC Password Tool window might be hidden behind other windows. If the SSPC Password Tool is not visible, click SSPC Password Tool in the Taskbar to make the window the primary window again. If the tool is closed, open and run it by clicking Start > All Programs > Startup > Run PW Tool. This is a step that you can perform only once because after you perform it, SSPC removes the Run PW Tool selection from the startup menu. If you need to change the password again after the initial SSPC setup, you can click the Password Tool icon on the SSPC desktop. For additional information, go to "Maintaining user IDs and passwords."
Attention: Do not click the Password Tool icon on the desktop during the initial SSPC setup. This action opens a different window that is not for the initial SSPC setup.
