Incorrect 2145-8A4 Node Hardware Shutdown Temperature Setting in V5.1.0.0 - V5.1.0.3

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

SVC 2145-8A4 node hardware may abruptly shut down without saving hardened cluster data, in datacenter over-temperature scenarios.

Content

SVC 2145-8A4 node hardware running V5.1.0.0 - V5.1.0.3 uses an incorrect hard shutdown temperature setting for the node hardware. The consequence of this incorrect setting is that, in the case of an over-temperature scenario, these nodes will shutdown before the SVC software shutdown threshold is reached, preventing the nodes from saving their hardened data to disk.

WARNING: This issue may result in cache data loss, extended host I/O access loss and the requirement for IBM Support to recover the cluster.

Fix

This issue is resolved by APAR IC68234 in the SVC V5.1.0.4 release. All customers with 2145-8A4 node hardware currently running V5.1.0.0 - V5.1.0.3 are strongly advised to upgrade to V5.1.0.4 or later to address this problem.
