Loading Latest R710 Cumulative Without Slipping LIC if System Does Not Have MF99008 or Higher Applied

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides a method to load the latest R710 cume without having to slip LIC when MF99008 or higher is not installed on the system.

Resolving The Problem

Special instructions for Cumulative package C5142710 and higher include the following statement:

  • - Special Instructions

"If PTF 5770999-MF99008 is not Permanently applied nor superseded by a Permanently applied PTF, there may not be enough reserved loadsource storage available to install PTF 5770999-MF99010 or higher. To prevent the PTF install from failing with CPF362C (Insufficient storage for Licensed Internal Code fix), restore Licensed Internal Code (LIC)level "RS 710-N" (May 2015) or higher before installing this cumulative PTF package. If you have questions on how to restore LIC, contact your service provider. NOTE: If you have any LIC PTFs on your system that are not included in this cumulative PTF package, you will need to re-install those PTFs after restoring LIC. Also, if you restore LIC for this issue, the following instruction regarding PTF SI43588/SI47010is not required because their purpose is to permanently apply a set of LIC PTFs which are already included in the LIC you restored."

As these special instructions document, one method to avoid the PTF installation from failing with CPF362C is to slip LIC with resave RSN or higher. This is a documented and acceptable resolution.

Another acceptable resolution that does not involve slipping/resinstalling LIC, is as follows:
  1. SI46137 and SI43588 (or later supersedes) must be temporarily or permanently applied to the system.
If the status of either of these fixes is Superseded, you should ensure that the supersede is temporarily or permanently applied to the system. If the supersede is 'Not applied' or 'Save file only' to the system, the supersede should be removed, and SI46137 downloaded and applied. If these are not applied to the system, the first step is to download and apply these. SI46137 should be the one ordered and applied (not the latest supersede) to prevent a later TR from being loaded onto the system.
    DSPPTF LICPGM(5770SS1) SELECT(SI46137)
    DSPPTF LICPGM(5770SS1) SELECT(SI43588)

2.Permanently apply all LIC (5770999) fixes. This can be done immediately when the system is running on the B side using the following command:

    APYPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(*ALL) APY(*PERM) DELAYED(*NO)

Note: This step should be done prior to loading the PTFs from the cumulative or groups.
3.Are PTFs SI50923 & SI50924 or later supersedes installed on the system? If the system is at cume level 14143 or later, these should be on the system.

    DSPPTF LICPGM(5770SS1) SELECT(SI50923)
    DSPPTF LICPGM(5770SS1) SELECT(SI50924)

If these PTFs are not found on the system, download them along with their requisites and apply them before continuing with the cume. These PTFs help prevent running into a timing issue during the IPL to apply PTFs which can result in an SRCB90037FF and having to SLIP OS to recover.
4.If MF99010 or MF99011 is not found on the system, continue with step 5.

NOTE: If MF99010 or MF99011 is already loaded onto the system (Not applied status), check if PTF MF61435 is applied to the system.

    DSPPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(MF61435)

If MF61435 is not applied or not found on the system, then the recommendation is to slip LIC and do not continue with these instructions. Without this fix being temporarily or permanently applied, there is a potential for the system to crash when removing or unmarking PTFs. See NOTE 1 .

If MF61435 is temp or perm applied to the system, first unmark PTFs, and then remove MF99010 or MF99011:

    APYPTF LICPGM(*ALL) SELECT(*ALL) APY(*TEMP) DELAYED(*YES) IPLAPY(*NO)
    APYPTF LICPGM(*ALL) SELECT(*ALL) APY(*PERM) DELAYED(*YES) IPLAPY(*NO)

    RMVPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(MF99010) RMV(*PERM) DELAYED(*NO) RMVDEP(*YES)

Note: If MF99011 was loaded, specify MF99011 in the above command rather than MF99010.
    5.Download MF99009.
    6.Load and mark MF99009:

    LODPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(MF99009)
    APYPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(MF99009) APY(*TEMP)  DELAYED(*YES)  APYREQ(*YES)

Note: As long as MF99009 and its requisites are the only PTFs in savf only status on the system, you can use the following to load and mark MF99009 and its requisites to the system:

GO PTF and take option 8. Then specify *SERVICE for the device. If you do not wish to IPL immediately, also specify Automatic IPL = N.
    7.IPL to temporarily apply MF99009.
    8.Permanently apply  MF99009:

    APYPTF LICPGM(5770999) SELECT(MF99009) APY(*PERM)  DELAYED(*NO) APYREQ(*YES)
9.Continue with installing the latest cumulative PTFs and groups. Review the cumulative instructions and follow any special instructions. The cumulative instructions can be found at the Preventative Service Planning (PSP) web site. Review SF98033:
