To see if Fax Support is active, on the operating system command line, type the following:

    GO FAXADM and press <ENTER>
Select option 8. Fax Support Jobs and press <ENTER>
    - or -
    WRKSBS and press <ENTER>

Q5: The QFQSBS started but not all the jobs are active. How do I get the jobs to start?

    A5:
Verify that all of the Enhanced Services jobs are configured to start. To do this, do the following:

Note: The user profile doing to following commands must be a Fax Administrator and have *JOBCTL and *SPLCTL special authorities. Refer to A7 for more information on how to check or change the authorities and settings for the user profile.

    End Enhanced Services:

    GO FAXADM and press <ENTER>

Q6: I ran the CFGFAXSRV command and received a dump, and it does not allow me to configure Fax Services.

A6: Issue CFGFAXSRV command and press F4 to Prompt. Press <ENTER> and verify that the Fax and OfficeVision for AS/400 (ENBLOV400) parameter is set to *NONE.

Q7: The system IPLed last night, and now fax is not working.

    A7:
Confirm that fax support is being ended in a controlled manner with the ENDFAXSPT command before the IPL or system backup. Allow enough time for the jobs and the QFAXSBS and QFQSBS subsystems to end. If Fax Support is not ended in a controlled manner, fax-related objects may be damaged which will prevent the jobs from starting again.

If Fax Support is being started in the start-up program after the IPL or backup, verify that the QPGMR user profile has *JOBCTL and *SPLCTL special authorities and is also a Fax Administrator.

To check if the QPGMR user profile has the proper special authorities, use the following command:

    DSPUSRPRF USRPRF(QPGMR) and press <ENTER>.

To change the QPGMR user profile to have the proper special authorities, use the following command:

    CHGUSRPRF USRPRF(QPGMR) SPCAUT(*JOBCTL *SPLCTL)

Note: One must have *SECADM special authority to change user profiles.

To check if QPGMR is a Fax Administrator, use the following command:

    WRKFAXPRF and press <ENTER>.
Find the QPGMR user profile in the list and take option 5. Display. Make sure the Administrator setting is set to 1 for Yes. If it is not, take option 2. Edit from the Work with Fax Profiles screen to change the Administrator setting.

Note: One must be a Fax Administrator to change the fax profile.

    To recover:
1End Fax Support and Enhanced Services:
    GO FAXADM and press <ENTER>
Select option 7. End Fax Support and press <ENTER>

          - or -
    STRFAXSPT FAXD(FAXD01) ENHSRV(*YES) and press <ENTER>

If all of the expected jobs are not in the QFQSBS subsystem, refer to A5 to configure the jobs to start.

If all the jobs are active, do a WRKOUTQ OUTQ(QFFSNDFAX) command and make sure the spooled files are not in a HLD or SAV status. If so, take option 6. Release next to the spooled files. Fax Support will not release a spooled file that is in hold or save status.

Q10: My faxes are in a SENDING status with details WAITING TO CREATE.

    A10: Refer to A4
to verify that all of the Enhanced Services jobs are active.

    A11:
    FAXC702 Busy Signal
    FAXC708 Communication failure

Below are messages that are not recommended:

FAXC701 Not answered by a fax device which usually means a wrong number was entered.
FAXC703 Could not contact a device.
    FAXC705 No Dial Tone

Q12: How do I find out how my lines or ports are configured?

A12: On the operating system command line, type the following:

    PRTFAXCFG FAXD(*ALL) and press <ENTER>.

This generates a spooled file named QPFFCFG with the configuration information for each controller and fax cards.

Q13: I do not use Enhanced Services; therefore, how can I tell if my fax was successful?

    A13:
On the operating system command line, type one of the following:
          Look in the transaction log:
          DSPPFM FILE(QUSRSYS/QAFFTLOG)

Look for messages in QFAXOPR message queue:
    DSPMSG MSGQ(QFAXOPR)
          - OR -
    GO FAXADM and press <ENTER>
Select option 9. Fax Operator Messages and press <ENTER>

See if the fax is on the Save Queue (QFFSNDSAV):
          WRKFAXQ OUTQ(*SAVQ)

See if the fax is on the Error Queue (QFFSNDERR):
          WRKFAXQ OUTQ(*ERRQ)

See if the fax is still waiting to be sent (QFFSNDFAX):
          WRKFAXQ OUTQ(*SNDQ)

Use the WRKSPLF command to see what output queue the spooled file is on.

Q14: There are faxes stuck in a SENDING status on the CHKFAXSTS screen. How can these be removed?

    A14:
On the operating system command line, type the following:
    CHKFAXSTS RESET(*YES) and press <ENTER>
Take 8=Reset status next to the fax in question and press <ENTER>. Once the fax is in a reset status, select 4=Remove and press <ENTER>.

Q15: I have the 7852-400 modem and I get a CPA3388: Attributes of file not supported for device.

    A15:
You must generate the spooled file as *AFPDS. You can do this by overriding or changing the printer file used to generate the spooled file.

Note: Refer to Information APAR II10588 for additional information about the modem. To link to II10588 immediately, click here Database 'DCF Technotes (IBM i)', View 'Products', Document 'PTFs for Facsimile Support for iSeries (FAX/400)'.

Q16: How can I see the full text of the Fax/400 messages?

    A16:
On the operating system command line, type the following:
    DSPMSGD RANGE(*ALL) MSGF(QFAX/QFAXMSG) and press <ENTER>.

Q17: I would like to create a custom cover page, overlay, and/or page segment. Is this possible? If so, how can I do this?

    A17:
It is possible. Refer to the Facsimile Support IBM Redbooks (SG24-4636-00) for information. If further assistance is needed, a consulting agreement is required. Use the following link: http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedbookAbstracts/sg244636.html

Q18: I am trying to find out what release of Facsimile Support I have installed. When I do a GO LICPGM, I do not see it listed.

A18: Use the DSPSFWRSC command to display the Software Resources on the system. Look for Resource ID 5798FAX. Press F11 to see the Release column.

Q19: I sent a fax, but I cannot see an entry in CHKFAXSTS.

A19: An entry will be made in the Check Fax Status screen only when the SBMFAX command is used to send the fax. There will not be an entry in the Check Fax Status screen if the SNDFAX command is used. If the SNDFAX command is used to send the fax, refer to A13 to determine the status of the fax.
