Configuring Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/7/8 to Fax PC Output Using FAX/400 and IBM iSeries NetServer

Problem

This document contains information about faxing PC documents with Facsimile Support.

Resolving The Problem

Note: FAX/400 and IBM iSeries NetServer are short names for IBM Facsimile Support for iSeries and IBM iSeries Support for Windows Network Neighborhood, respectively. These products run on the IBM iSeries family of servers.

The following information is provided to help you install and configure a PC workstation with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/7/8 that enables that workstation to fax PC output using Facsimile Support.

Note: The following items are assumed to be complete before you begin with the attached steps/instructions.

oWindows 95/98/NT/2000/XP has been successfully installed on the PC workstation.
oiSeries Access for Windows has been successfully installed on the PC workstation and you selected the AFP Printer Drivers to be installed. If using Windows 7, please make sure you have the latest driver and updates reference N1011940, AFP Printer Driver for Windows 7. oYou have installed the latest Service Pack for iSeries Access for Windows.
oYou have successfully configured iSeries NetServer. For more assistance, refer to document New, Getting Started with iSeries NetServer. To link to New immediately, click here http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1019708 .
oYou have successfully configured an iSeries NetServer share using iSeries Navigator for the QFQFS4PRTD printer. To do this, follow the instructions in document New, Creating a Shared Object under AS/400 NetServer. To link to New immediately, click here Database 'DCF Technotes (IBM i)', View 'Products', Document 'Creating iSeries NetServer Printer Shares'. Verify that your share is set up as follows:

Share Name: QFQFS4PRTD
Description: FAX/400
Output Queue: QFQFS4PRTD
Output Queue Library: QUSRSYS
Printer Driver: IBM AFP Facsimile Support/400
Spooled File Type: Advanced Function Printing

Note: If running Windows 7 or 8.1 do not specify the Printer Driver. Please leave that field blank.
If you have not completed all of the items listed above, the following steps will not work or complete successfully. The items listed above must be completed successfully before continuing.

Configuring the PC Workstation to Fax PC Output Using Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/7
To configure the PC workstation, do the following:
1.From the Windows desktop, click on Start.
2.From the Windows workstation pop-up, click on Find.
3.From the next pop-up, click on Computer.
4.From the Find: Computer window, type the name of your iSeries NetServer and click on Find Now.
5.A computer with the name of your iSeries NetServer is shown. Double-click it now.
6.You now have a window containing folders and printers. Double-click on QFQFS4PRTD.
7.A list of printers comes up. Double-click on QFQFS4PRTD.
8.You should now have a box that says "Before you can use the printer "\\iSeriesNetserver\QFQFS4PRTD,' it must be set up on your computer. Do you want Windows to set up the printer and continue this operation?" Click YES now.
9.The Add Printer Wizard pop-up should appear, select NO for the question "Do you print from MS-DOS based programs?" and click on Next.
10.Under the heading of Manufacturers, select IBM. Under the heading of Printers, select IBM AFP Facsimile Support/400, and click Next.
11.On the Add Wizard pop-up, click on Next.
12.Select NO for the questions "Would you like to print a test page?" and click on Finish.
13.The printer is added. You can now fax PC output.
Configuring Enhanced Services

Enhanced Services must be configured and started to fax from the PC. Therefore, verify the QFQSBS is active using the WRKSBS command. Select Option 8, and you should see at a minimum the QFQFAXSRV job and the QFQSNDSTS job active. If not, run the CFGFAXSRV command to configure, FAX support must be started again to have this configuration take effect. Faxing from Windows 7 or 8.1

With these versions of Windows there was a change made on their OS that causes the following window to pop up (Interactive Services Detection). You will need to View the message to get the SUBMIT FAX pop up screen to enter your fax information.
