FTP ASCII File Members between PC and OS/400

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

This document explains how to FTP files between the IBM iSeries and a PC using ASCII transfer.

Resolving the problem

Downloading ASCII File Member from the IBM iSeries to the PC

This method of transferring files will convert an EBCDIC file to ASCII. However, it will not convert numeric values - only character values. For suggestions on how to transfer files with numeric values, see Rochester Support Center knowledgebase documents New and 25714023 on using CPYTOIMPF and CPYFRMIMPF. 3 Because the file is to be ASCII on the PC, type the following:

4 Type the following:

GET /QSYS.LIB/YOURLIB.LIB/YOURFILE.FILE/MBRNAME.MBR PCFILENAME.TXT

where PCFILENAME.TXT is the name that you want to call the MBRNAME on the PC.
