Troubleshooting

Problem

This document contains Frequently Asked Questions for upgrading and installing Facsimile Support.

Resolving The Problem

Question 1: Do I have the correct version of Facsimile Support for my version of OS?
Answer 1:  There are two releases of Facsimile Support, product 5798FAX, for the current, supported IBM i releases:

Facsimile Support V5R7M0 runs on OS releases V7R1M0 and higher.
Facsimile Support V5R8M0 runs on OS releases V7R1M0 and higher.

**Specific hardware may require the use of Facsimile Support V5R8M0, such as when using the 4-port 5277/5785 Async PCIe Adapter.  See the IBM Facsimile Support for IBM i for more details.

The only difference between V5R7M0 and V5R8M0 is that V5R8M0 has the updated commands and code to work with the Ethernet Device Server (EDS), also known as the WAN to LAN feature.  The EDS is only available on IBM i OS V7R2 and higher releases.  Facsimile Support will not work with the EDS at OS VR71M0.

The recommendation is to use the latest version of Facsimile Support regardless of OS release.
