Caution: The Workstation Customizing Objects (WSCSTs) and WSCST source code contained in the attached save file is provided as is by IBM iSeries Remote Technical Support. They are not guaranteed to do everything you might want to do with a modified WSCST object and are not guaranteed to work with any specific printer without further modification or customization. The creation of a custom transform table to your specifications might require working through a consulting agreement.
    • - Pre-Built Workstation Customizing Objects (WSCSTs) for HP PCL5-compatible Printers

The QWSCST save file contains 13 *WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers. These *WSCST objects are PCL5, PCL5AUTOSL, PCL5AUTOS2, PCL5RASTER, PCL5RASTR2, PCL5DUPLEX, PCL5SIMPLX, PCL5TUMBLE, PCL5COUR, PCL5GOTHIC, PCL5PORTRT, PCL5UB04A, and PCL5UB04B. All of these *WSCST objects are based on the *HP4, *HP5, *LEXOPTRAT and *INFOPRINT1140 manufacturer types and models (MFRTYPMDLs). The following table describes the changes that are common to all of the *WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers:

oThe pre-built WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers select ASCII Code Page 850 rather than ASCII code page 437 using the Default ASCII Code Page (DFTASCCP) tag. Some system-supplied WSCST objects transform EBCDIC text into ASCII code page 437; however, the newer ASCII Code page 850 is now supported by most current printers. In addition, ASCII code page 850 has more characters in common with the EBCDIC code pages; for example, code pages 37 and 500, and is, therefore, a better match.

For details on the DFTASCCP change, please refer to the following document:

N1010136: Customizing the Code Page 37 to 850 Translation Table
oThe pre-built WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers use the Euro Symbol (EUROSYMBOL) tag to indicate that the printer is expected to have built-in, or resident, support for the Euro currency symbol ("€").
oThe pre-built WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers uses the same Customizing Paper Drawer Selection (DWRSLT) and Additional Drawer Table Entry (ADDDRWTBLE) tags used for *HP4, *HP5, *LEXOPTRAT, *INFOPRINT1140, and several other manufacturer types and models (MFRTYPMDLs). Some of the MFRTYPMDLs have more ADDDRWTBLE tags than others, and the pre-built WSCST objects use a super-set of those used in these MFRTYPMDLs.
oThe pre-built WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers have several Additional Drawer Table Entry (ADDDRWTBLE) tags that have been added to map DRAWER(201) to a PCL5 Paper Source command of Ec&l1H (X'1B266C3148'), DRAWER(202) to Ec&l2H, and so on, through DRAWER(239), which is mapped to Ec&l39H.

As of 8 October 2008, a change was made to also map DRAWER(200) to Ec&l0H (X'1B266C3048') which indicates to print using the current page settings (n other words, no change or use the current paper tray).

As of 30 September 2011, a change was made to include two new *WSCST objects that involve changes to the drawer selection. The PCL5AUTOSL *WSCST object maps the DWRSLT tags for DRAWER1 and DRAWER, as well as all of the ADDDRWTBLE tags, to Ec&l7H (X'1B266C3748') which is the Paper Source command for auto-select on most newer HP LaserJet printers. The PCL5AUTOS2 *WSCST object does not send any Paper Source commands in the DWRSLT tags for DRAWER1 and DRAWER or in any of the ADDDRWTBLE tags, so the printer should select the default paper tray.

This provides a relatively easy way to test which value is required to select a specific paper tray. After the correct Paper Source value has been identified, copy the WSCST source member, and specify that Paper Source value in the DWRSLT or ADDDRWTBLE tag that corresponds to the value of the Source drawer (DRAWER) parameter in the attributes of your spooled files.

Note: Not all Paper Source values specified in the ADDDRWTBLE tags will be supported on any given printer.
The following table describes the changes that have been made for each of the individual *WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers:
*WSCST NameDescription of Workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter
PCL5The PCL5 WSCST object contains modified CPI in COR Mode (CPICOR) tags so that:

10 Characters per Inch (CPI) fonts will be compressed to a 13.3 CPI font rather than a 17.1 CPI font. Therefore, 132-column spooled files will fit in landscape on Letter sized (8.5 x 11 inch) paper without excess white space to the right.

12 Characters per Inch (CPI) fonts will be compressed to a 15 CPI font.

15 Characters per Inch (CPI) fonts will be compressed to a 20 CPI font.

For details on the CPICOR changes, please refer to the following document:

N1018530: Controlling the Font that Host Print Transform (HPT) Selects when Performing Computer Output Reduction (COR)

Note: This will be done for all of the other pre-built WSCST objects for HP PCL5-compatible printers with the exception of PCL5COUR, PCL5GOTHIC, and PCL5PORTRT.
      PCL5AUTOSL
      PCL5AUTOS2
The PCL5AUTOSL and PCL5AUTOS2 WSCST objects contain the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object and also changes to the Customizing Paper Drawer Selection (DWRSLT) and Additional Drawer Table Entry (ADDDRWTBLE) tags for automatic drawer selection. The PCL5AUTOSL WSCST object sends a '1B266C3748'X which is the PCL5 Paper Source command for auto-select on most newer PCL-capable printers, and the PCL5AUTOS2 WSCST sends no PCL5 Paper Source commands at all. The result should typically be that the printer selects the default paper tray.

For details on the DWRSLT and ADDDRWTBLE changes, please refer to the following document:

N1011472: Forcing Auto Select for Drawer Selection using Host Print Transform (HPT)
PCL5RASTERThe PCL5RASTER WSCST object contains the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object, and also contain changes to the Raster Mode (RASTERMODE) tag to print *AFPDS spooled files in Raster Mode. Specifically, this resolve a common problem of overlapping print for *AFPDS spooled files.

For details on the RASTERMODE change, please refer to the following document:

N1010127: Raster Imaging for Host Print Transform (HPT)
PCL5RASTR2The PCL5RASTR2 WSCST object contains the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object, and also changes the Raster Mode (RASTERMODE) tag to print both *SCS and *AFPDS spooled files in Raster Mode. Specifically, this resolves a common problem of overlapping print for *AFPDS spooled files, as well a common problem printing 10 CPI spooled files with Computer Output Reduction (COR) at 13.3 CPI on printers that do not have scalable fonts.

For details on the RASTERMODE change, please refer to the following document:

N1010127: Raster Imaging for Host Print Transform (HPT)
      PCL5DUPLEX
      PCL5SIMPLX
      PCL5TUMBLE
The PCL5DUPLEX, PCL5SIMPLX, and PCL5TUMBLE WSCST objects contain the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object and also changes to the Set Simplex Printing (SMPXPRT), Set Duplex Printing (DUPXPRT), and Set Tumble Duplex Printing (TUMDUPXPRT) tags to force duplex, simplex, or tumble duplex printing. Also, a null Shift Out (SO) tag will be added to tell Host Print Transform (HPT) not to send page formatting controls on successive page boundaries. This causes the printer to continue with simplex, or single-sided printing.

The PCL5DUPLEX WSCST object is set up so duplex printing (printing on both sides) is done for all spooled files if the printer hardware supports duplex printing. Tumble duplex printing (printing on both sides with a 180-degree rotation on the back side) is still done for spooled files that have the Print on both sides (DUPLEX) parameter set to *TUMBLE.

The PCL5SIMPLX WSCST object is set up so simplex printing (printing on one side only) is done for all spooled files, even when the Print on both sides (DUPLEX) parameter is set to *YES or *TUMBLE.

The PCL5TUMBLE WSCST object is set up so tumble duplex printing (printing on both sides with a 180-degree rotation on the back side) is done for all spooled files if the printer hardware supports tumble duplex printing. Duplex printing (printing on both sides without a 180-degree rotation on the back side) is done for spooled files that have the Print on both sides (DUPLEX) parameter set to *YES.

For details on the SMPXPRT, DUPXPRT, TUMDUPXPRT, and SO changes, please refer to the following document:

N1019006: Simpler Method for Controlling Duplex Print by Modifying a Workstation Customizing Object (WSCST)
      PCL5COUR
      PCL5GOTHIC
The PCL5COUR and PCL5GOTHIC WSCST objects contain the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object. The PCL5COUR WSCST object also changes the Set Characters per Inch in COR Mode (CPICOR), Font Group Entry (FNTGRPE), and Individual Font Entry (INDFNTE) tags to send PCL5 Font Selection commands to request a printer-resident Courier font, and the PCL5GOTHIC WSCST object changes the CPICOR, FNTGRPE, and INDFNTE tags to send PCL5 Font Selection commands to request a printer-resident Letter Gothic font.

For details on the CPICOR, FNTGRPE and INDFNTE changes, please refer to the following documents:

N1018530: Controlling the Font that Host Print Transform (HPT) Selects when Performing Computer Output Reduction (COR)
N1010124: Creating a Specific Font (INDFNTE Tag)
N1010146: Creating a Font Group Definition
N1010138: Breakdown of HP PCL5 Font Strings

Note: Proportionally Spaced Mode (PSM) fonts do not print in a printer-resident Courier or Letter Gothic font; instead, it prints in the same fonts used in the PCL5 WSCST object and all of the system-supplied MFRTYPMDL settings for PCL-compatible printers, CG Times. The entire 154 - 200 font range is set up to use a CG Times Medium 12-point font as is individual font ID 186. Font ID 187 is set up to use a CG Times Bold 12-point font, Font ID 188 is set up to use a CG Times Italic Medium 12-point font, and Font ID 189 is set up to use a CG Times Italic Bold 12-point font.
PCL5PORTRTThe PCL5PORTRT WSCST object contains the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object except that the Paper Orientation (PRTORIENT) tags are set up to force all spooled files to print in portrait and the Set Characters per Inch in COR Mode (CPICOR) tags are set up to compress 10 CPI fonts to 17.1 CPI, compress 12 CPI fonts to 20 CPI, and compress 15 CPI fonts to 25 CPI.

For details on the PRTORIENT and CPICOR change, please refer to the following document:

N1010170: Forcing Spooled Files to Print in Portrait instead of COR Using Host Print Transform (HPT)
      PCL5UB04A
      PCL5UB04B
The PCL5UB04A and PCL5UB04B WSCST objects contains the same CPICOR changes as the PCL5 WSCST object, but also set the NOPRTBDR (No Print Border) tags for LEFT/PORTRAIT and RIGHT/PORTRAIT to 1 pel.

With the PCL5UB04A WSCST object, HP Printer Job Language (PJL) and HP Printer Control Language (PCL) commands are sent to the printer to activate WHOLEPAGE printing and to send the Left Offset Registration and Skip Perforation PCL commands to start printing at the left unprintable border when using Host Print Transform (HPT). With the PCL5UB04B WSCST object, HP Printer Job Language (PJL) and HP Printer Control Language (PCL) commands are sent to the printer to activate EDGE-TO-EDGE printing and to send the Left Offset Registration and Skip Perforation PCL commands to start printing at the left unprintable border when using Host Print Transform (HPT).

Both of these were developed specifically for printing UB-04 Forms, but can be for other applications, provided that the printer hardware supports either WHOLEPAGE or EDGE-TO-EDGE printing and activating WHOLEPAGE or EDGE-TO-EDGE mode using PJL commands.

For details on the Whole Page and Edge-to-Edge (or UB-04 Form) changes, please refer to the following document:

N1018916: Sending PJL Commands to Activate Whole Page or Edge-to-Edge Printing for Printing UB-04 Forms

      Notes:

The most recent IBM Infoprint 1xxx printers and Lexmark Optra printers and some printers from Ricoh, Savin, Nashuatec, Rex-Rotary, Gestetner, Lanier and Infotec, support "whole page" printing that allows printing more than 8.0 inches on a line when in HP PCL5e/PCL6 mode. Whole page printing can be activated through the printer hardware settings; however, it should also be able to be activated through HP PJL commands.

Specific models of HP LaserJet printers support edge-to-edge printing that can be activated with different HP PJL commands; however, this is not supported on all HP printers. According to documentation from HP.com, edge-to-edge printing is supported with the HP LaserJet 5100, 8150, 9000 and 9000mfp series printers. Edge-to-edge printing is not supported on the HP LaserJet 1150, 1200, 1300, 2200, 2300, 4100, 4100mfp, 4200, nor 4300 series printers.

        • - Using the Pre-Built Workstation Customizing Objects (WSCSTs)

After the pre-built Workstation Customizing Objects (WSCSTs) have been restored to the system, the WSCST object of your choice must be specified in the configuration on the IBM System i products so the writer knows to have Host Print Transform (HPT) use the WSCST object rather than using the system-supplied WSCST object that corresponds to the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) setting. How the WSCST object is specified depends on how the printer is configured on the System i.

For *LCL, *RMT, and *LAN printer device descriptions, the WSCST object can be specified in the printer device description by ending the writer, varying off the printer device description, and using the Change Device Desc (Printer) (CHGDEVPRT) command to set the Workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter to the name of the modified WSCST object. Then, the printer device description can be varied back on and the printer writer started again.

For Remote Output Queues, the WSCST object can be specified in the output queue description by ending the writer and using the Change Output Queue (CHGOUTQ) command to set the Workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter to the name of the WSCST object. Then, start the remote writer again.

For *VRT device descriptions, it depends on printer emulation software or hardware being used. Some third-party printer emulation software requires you to manually change the WSCST parameter in the printer device description; for example, for a *LCL, *RMT, or *LAN printer device description. However, other printer emulation software (including PC5250) require that any Workstation Customizing Object (WSCST) be specified in the printer session profile. Then, the change is automatically be reflected in the *VRT printer device description the next time the printer session connects to the System i. If the WSCST is manually changed in the printer device description in the case of a PC5250 printer session, it will get set back to *NONE when the printer session connects to the System i.

For specific instructions on using Host Print Transform (HPT) with your device descriptions or Remote Output Queues (RMTOUTQs), refer to one of the following documents:

N1010288: Using Host Print Transform (HPT) with a *LAN Device Description

          • - Restoring the WSCST Objects and WSCST Source Code from the Attached Save File

The WSCST objects and the WSCST source code can be restored from the attached save file using the following instructions:

1Create a save file called QWSCST using the following Create Save File (CRTSAVF) command:

            CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/QWSCST)
TEXT('Pre-Built WSCST Objects from iSeries Support')
2Detach or download the qwscst.savf file to a directory on your PC.

            qwscst.savfqwscst.savf

Note: After the save file is on your PC, upload it using FTP, in binary mode, using the remainder of these instructions.
3Bring up a Microsoft Windows Command Prompt on your PC.
4Use the CD command to connect to the folder that contains the save file (for example, type CD C:\Temp if the save file was saved in the Temp folder).
5Type FTP <iSeries-system-name> to start an FTP session to the system. Sign on the system using your user profile and password.
6Type BIN at the FTP prompt to force the data transmission to binary data.
7Type CD QGPL to change the working directory to the QGPL library (or the library where the save file was generated).

Note: If this fails with an error that says the library was not found, it could be caused by the FTP attributes on the operating system being set up with the Initial name format (NAMEFMT) parameter set to *PATH rather than *LIB, or in other words FTP might be set up to connect to the Integrated File System rather than to the library structure. Use the Change FTP Attributes (CHGFTPA) command to determine this or to change the setting, or you can try typing CD /QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB. Another option is to try typing QUOTE SITE NAMEFMT 0 and then typing CD QGPL.
8Type SEND QWSCST.SAVF QWSCST to upload the QWSCST.SAVF file to the QWSCST save file.

Note: If using NAMEFMT 1, type QUOTE SITE NAMEFMT 0 to change to NAMEFMT 0 before typing the above SEND command, or type SEND QWSCST.SAVF QWSCST.FILE.
9Type QUIT to end the FTP session.
10Type EXIT to close the Windows Command Prompt.
11Use the following Display Save File (DSPSAVF) command to verify that the file has been uploaded successfully:

            DSPSAVF FILE(QGPL/QWSCST)

For a complete list of objects in the QWSCST save file, refer to the Contents of the QWSCST Save File and the QWSCSTSRC Source Physical File section below.

Note: If unsuccessful, repeat the above steps making sure to follow the instructions exactly. Most important is the steps to type BIN at the FTP prompt to ensure that the qwscst.savf file is uploaded in binary mode.
12After the PC file has been successfully uploaded to the QWSCST save file, you can restore the objects from the QWSCST save file to the QGPL library using the following Restore Object (RSTOBJ) command:

            RSTOBJ OBJ(*ALL) SAVLIB(QGPL) DEV(*SAVF) OBJTYPE(*ALL)
                   SAVF(QGPL/QWSCST)

Contents of the QWSCST Save File and the QWSCSTSRC Source Physical File

The above Display Save File (DSPSAVF) command will show that the QWSCST save file contains the following objects:
