Troubleshooting
Problem
This document provides information about using Wake On LAN to power on IBM POWER5 system.
Resolving The Problem
The IBM POWER5 system can be remotely powered on using the Wake On LAN (WOL) feature of the integrated 1GB Ethernet adapter. Remote Power On (RPO) using a modem is not supported on eServer i5 hardware.
o | WOL must be enabled through ASMI. |
o | If you want partitions to automatically start up, they must be configured to start when the server starts and the FSP must be configured through ASMI to start up to operating state (not standby). |
o | The control panel must be set to normal mode. |
o | WOL only works with port A on the integrated 1GB Ethernet adapter. For a model 520, this is the P1-T5 port. |
o | WOL will power up the system after receiving a Magic Packet sent to the adapter. Notes: 1. A Magic Packet has a 6-byte header that consists of x'FFFFFFFFFFFF' and the rest of the packet consists of the MAC address (6 bytes) for the T5 port repeated 16 times. 2. More information is available at Infocenter and in this Command Reference document. |
