Notes:
1. | Image catalogs can be used only when loaded on a virtual device. An image catalog can be loaded only on one virtual device at a time. Therefore, the useable limit is limited by the number of virtual devices varied on. |
2. | The default size is 1 GB; however, if the image is IMGSIZ(*MIN), the actual allocated size is the size of the data saved or minimum of 4KB. If there are no more volumes available and the backup spans to an additional volume, the volume is automatically created with a default size of 1 TB (1000 GB) and IMGSIZ(*MIN). The automatically created volume will be created with a Volume Name and Image File Name as GENxxx, where xxx is an incrementing number. |
3. | Catalog Shadowing is not supported by BRMS. |
4. | Import function requires the original QIMGCLG object to exist in the image catalog directory. |
5. | The 16 GB Maximum size of optical image in R710 and below is the maximum tested/supported size. It is possible to create an optical image that is greater than 16 GB at R710 and below. |
Other information
Following are the supported file systems:
Root” (/) (see Notes)
QOpenSys
UDFS having a *TYPE2 default file format
Notes:
1. Does not support any other file systems; for example, /QNTC, /QDLS or /QFileSvr.400. If trying to use these file systems, may see errors like OPT1815 or CPD4F06. To resolve, create an image catalog associated with a directory off of the root file system.
2. A virtual optical device can access images located on a server using the Network File System (NFS). This is referenced as 'Remote virtual optical' in the above chart. Refer to the following links for more information:

Commands and Functions That Are Not Supported
o | SAVSTG is not supported. |
o | VFYTAP is not supported. |
o | DST and SST functions (such as session statistics) are not supported. |
o | Virtual tape library functions (Virtual Tape acts like a RACL - Random Access Automatic Cartridge Loader) are not supported. |
o | Restoring LIC or operating system is not supported at V5R2 and below. |
o | Restoring licensed programs from an image catalog in a user ASP or iASP is not supported. |
o | Catalog Shadowing is not supported by BRMS. |
