Device Types Requested by Access for Windows PC5250 Emulation

Problem

The IBM Access for Windows PC5250 Emulator requests a specific Device Type based on its configuration.

Resolving The Problem

The PC5250 Display and Print Emulator that is included with IBM Access for Windows only supports 5250 Telnet Emulation. There are four different emulation modes that PC5250 supports: Standard, Widescreen, DBCS, and Printer. Each one of these modes request and use a specific 5250 Device Type, as follows:

Emulation Mode

Device Type
Standard 24x80Device Type 3179-2 (24x80 color display)
Widescreen 27x132Device Type 3477-FC (27x132 wide-screen color display)
DBCS 24x80Device Type 5555-C01 (24x80 DBCS color display)
PrinterDevice Type 3812-1
These are the only 5250 Device Types that Access for Windows PC5250 is able and designed to use.
