Problem

This document describes how to install the latest version of the IBM AFP Workbench Viewer. The most current version is 2.02.02.05.

Resolving The Problem

Important Note: This document discusses Client Access for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT, Client Access Express, IBM iSeries Access, IBM System i Access and IBM i Access for Windows products. These names essentially refer to the same product; however, the functionality and name changed over the last several releases. For the purposes of this document, the terms Client Access, Client Access Express, iSeries Access, System i Access and IBM i Access for Windows can be used interchangeably. Where a difference is important, the version of the product is used to identify the differences.

The IBM i Access for Windows FTP site includes updates to the AFP Workbench Viewer. However, newer versions of the AFP Workbench Viewer are shipped with the most recent 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows service packs, which can be downloaded directly from the IBM i Access for Windows - Service Packs web site:

Older Versions of the AFP Workbench Viewer Available on FTP Site

The most recent update on the IBM i Access for Windows FTP site is AFP Workbench Viewer version 2.02.02.05. This version is available for download directly from the following Web site:

The readme.txt file contains complete instructions to install the update. If upgrading from Version 2.02.xx.xx, only the FTD2020205.zip file must be installed. If upgrading from a version other than 2.02.xx.xx, then the FTD2020205MRI.zip is also needed, though it will be an English-only installation.

If you are installing the AFP Workbench Viewer on a PC with Windows 7 operating system, and it is not working to display spooled files from iSeries Access Navigator, you can access a test fix here:

The cwbprt32.dll file would be placed into the \Program Files\IBM\Client Access\AFPViewr directory of the PC. Please remember to save off the current version of cwbprt32.dll before replacing with this version.


Versions of the AFP Workbench Viewer included with IBM i Access for Windows Service Packs

The service packs for 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows include updates to the AFP Workbench Viewer. The following table lists the version of the AFP Workbench Viewer that is shipped with the most recent 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows service packs:

Temporary Fix for APAR SE57569

APAR SE57569 "CA400EXP-AFPVIEWER-UNPRED AFP WORKBENCH VIEWER (FTDWINVW.EXE) CANNOT START BECAUSE ICUUC44.DLL MISSING" reports an issue where the AFP Workbench Viewer cannot be started after installing 7.1 service pack SI50567. After installing this service pack, launching the AFP Workbench Viewer fails with a message that says "ftdwinvw.exe - System Error: The program can't start because icuuc44.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".

Reinstalling 7.1 service pack SI50567 or 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows does not resolve the problem. However, the problem is resolved by installing a temp fix included in the SE57569.zip file, using the instructions in the corresponding readme.txt file.

Ricoh AFP Workbench for Windows Free Version

Warning: The Ricoh AFP Workbench Viewer for Windows has not yet been tested with IBM i Access for Windows 7.1 and it is therefore not guaranteed to work properly with System i Navigator.

The Ricoh AFP Workbench Viewer for Windows Free Version is available on the Ricoh USA web site at:

This version of the AFP printer driver contains a supports the following operating systems:

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista, Windows Vista 32 Bit, Windows XP

Note: By default, the Ricoh AFP Workbench Viewer for Windows Free Version will install to the C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\AFP Workbench directory. This directory is okay if the Ricoh AFP Workbench Viewer for Windows is to be run stand-alone, but it may need to be installed under your IBM i Access for Windows directory, for example C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Client Access\AFPViewr, in order to display spooled files from within System i Navigator.
