Problem(Abstract)

This document contains instructions for setting up multipath I/O on Windows Server 2008.

Resolving the problem

To set up multipath I/O on Windows Server 2008, do the following:

Step 1: Start the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Service

Note: It is recommended to enable this service for automatic start.

Do one of the following:

o From the Start button select Administrative Tools -> Services. Right-click on Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Service, and select Properties. Change the startup type to Automatic, and start the service.
o Run the following commands:

C:\>net start msiscsi
C:\>sc config msiscsi start= auto
Step 2: Install Windows component MPIO
o From the Start button select Administrative Tools -> Server Manager. Scroll down to the Features Summary section. Select Add Features, and choose MPIO from the list.
o Alternatively run the following command:

C:\>ocsetup MultipathIo /norestart
Step 3: Discover and claim multi-path devices

Do one of the following:
o From the Start button select ->All Programs->MPIO. Locate the second tab labeled Discover Multi-Paths. Check the box next to Add support for iSCSI devices. Click the Add button.
o Run the following command:

C:\>mpclaim -r -i -a ""
