Infoprint Server Fails with Message PQT3625 RC22 on Systems Running V6R1M0 (R610), or higher, i5/OS

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides information on an issue where Infoprint Server for iSeries (product 5722IP1) fails with message PQT3625 - "Connection with device &8 is being retried" RC22, indicating that the device did not respond to a connection request on IBM System i servers running V6R1M0 (R610) i5/OS.

Resolving The Problem

This document provides information on an issue where Infoprint Server for iSeries (product 5722IP1) fails with message PQT3625 - Connection with device &8 is being retried RC22, indicating that the device did not respond to a connection request on IBM System i servers running V6R1M0 (R610) i5/OS. This can occur after the initial installation of V5R3M0 (R530) Infoprint Server on a system running V6R1M0 (R610) i5/OS or higher; or, after applying PTFs for product 5722IP1.

Infoprint Server is a slip-ship product, meaning that the latest version of this product is V5R3M0 (R530) even when running on a V6R1M0 (R610), or higher, system. Due to changes in V6R1M0 i5/OS, object conversion is required on the modules shipped with Infoprint Server after a new installation of this product or after PTFs are applied. You may notice error message CPIB0DC - Digital signature lost, when trying to convert the objects. This is a normal message.

If a *LAN IPDS device description and PSF Configuration (PSFCFG) object are configured to use Infoprint Server to convert spooled files to PDF and, if the writer for that *LAN IPDS DEVD printer writer is started prior to object conversion, the writer could fail with message PQT3625 RC22. This occurs because the BATCH program is not available to listen on the LOOPBACK interface (127.0.0.1) until object conversion has completed for the Infoprint Server modules it uses. There is no fix for this problem; however, it can be circumvented by changing the PSFCFG object to set the APPC and TCP/IP retry count (RETRY) parameter to *NOMAX. For example:

CHGPSFCFG PSFCFG(psfcfg-object-name) RETRY(*NOMAX)

This will cause the printer writer to wait until object conversion has completed and the BATCH job is able to listen on the LOOPBACK interface. This is the preferred circumvention. You could also manually run the STROBJCVN command for library QIPS; however, this would need to be done each time a PTF replaces program QIPS/QIPSINIT.

Also, it is suggested that you change the command default for CRTPSFCFG, so that you do not run into this error with newly created objects:

CHGCMDDFT CMD(CRTPSFCFG) NEWDFT('RETRY(*NOMAX)')
