Requirements for Hot Spare

Troubleshooting

Problem

The use of Hot Spare requires V5R4M5 and specific disk controllers. This document specifies the supported controllers.

Resolving The Problem

RAID Hot Spare is supported on 800, 810, 825, 870 and 890 and all Power Systems. Hot Spare requires V5R4M5 or later.

The following disk controllers support Hot Spare:

o1.5 GB controllers: #5739/5778/5799/5800/5781/5782 (CCIN 571F) and #5738/4777/5582/5583 (CCIN 571E)
o757MB Controllers #2757/5581/5591 and #2780/5580/5590
o90 MB controllers #5737/5776 (CCIN 571B)
o40 MB controllers #5703/2782
oEmbedded disk controllers of the models 515, 520, 525, 550, and 570 having a 16-40 MB write cache card: #5709/5726/9509/5727/5728/9510
oAll SAS adapters that have write cache are capable of running hot spare.
oThere is no specific slot requirement for serial-attached SCSI (SAS) disk units. Any slot can contain the load source.
