Resolving The Problem

This document will demonstrate how to obtain and install QMGTOOLS properly.

Important Note: The MustGather Data Capture tool is provided as-is.

The MustGather Data Capture tool was created by IBM Support to help automatically collect the many pieces of debug data that is critical to fixing complex problems more quickly.

Important Note: At this time, there are no requirements to use this tool.

To check the version run command:  CALL QMGTOOLS/QGETVER or GO QMGTOOLS/MG then option 12.

There are three suggested methods to get the QMGTOOLS library if the library does not exist on the IBM i system.

Method 1 - Install QMGTOOLS via PTF order

QMGTOOLS can be obtained via PTF. Refer to the PTF Cover letter for the latest information.

Note : If your release is not listed here, then refer to the other methods to get QMGTOOLS in this document.  QMGTOOLS library shipped via the following PTFs have a build date of 11/02/2018.

SI68645 - R720 APAR SE70173 https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas2SE70173
SI68663 - R730 APAR SE70173 https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas2SE70173

The coverletter of the PTFs provide the following process to restore QMGTOOLS:
1) After applying the PTF, a save file, QESMGTSAVF, is created in
library QSYS

2) This save file contains the QMGTOOLS library

3) Record the QALWOBJRST (allow object restore option) system value w/
comamnd: DSPSYSVAL SYSVAL(QALWOBJRST)

4) Change the QALWOBJRST (allow object restore option) system value to
*ALL w/ command: CHGSYSVAL SYSVAL(QALWOBJRST) VALUE(*ALL)

5) If QMGTOOLS library exist, clear the library and restore with
command: RSTOBJ OBJ(*ALL) SAVLIB(QMGTOOLS) DEV(*SAVF)
SAVF(QSYS/QESMGTSAVF) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

6) If QMGTOOLS library does not exist, restore with command :
RSTLIB SAVLIB(QMGTOOLS) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QSYS/QESMGTSAVF)
MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

7) Change back the QALWOBJRST system value to the original value w/
command: CHGSYSVAL SYSVAL(QALWOBJRST) VALUE(xxxx) where xxxx was
the original value

8) Once QMGTOOLS is installed, try to update QMGTOOLS to get the latest version :

a) GO QMGTOOLS/MG

b) choose option 13 (Check IBM for updated QMGTOOLS)

Method 2 - Manually download and install QMGTOOLS from IBM FTP site

To obtain the tool, you should go to the following URL: http://public.dhe.ibm.com/services/us/igsc/has/

Or from the main iDoctor page (https://www-912.ibm.com/i_dir/idoctor.nsf), do the following:
1. Select Downloads (https://www-912.ibm.com/i_dir/idoctor.nsf/downloadoptions.html)
2. Click on HA and QMGTOOLS (http://public.dhe.ibm.com/services/us/igsc/has/)

Download the version appropriate to the IBM i OS level being debugged (for example, if user is on R611/R610, download the QMGTOOLS library - 6.1):

A save file called QMGTOOLxxx.savf (where xxx = VRM of the IBM i OS level) will be downloaded to the user's PC, where it can be FTP'd to the IBM i system(s).

Picture showing save file name

On the IBM i server create the QMGTOOLS library and save file.
CRTLIB QMGTOOLS
CRTSAVF QMGTOOLS/QMGTOOLS

Use a DOS/Command prompt to FTP the save file from the PC to the IBM i server.
Example commands:
CD DESKTOP <<if the QMGTOOLxxx.savf resides on the desktop>>
FTP <IBM i server name>
BIN
PUT QMGTOOLxxx.savf QMGTOOLS/QMGTOOLS
or
PUT QMGTOOLxxx.SAVF /QSYS.LIB/QMGTOOLS.LIB/QMGTOOLS.SAVF

Restore the QMGTOOLS library on the IBM i system.
1. Issue the following IBM i command:
RSTLIB SAVLIB(QMGTOOLS) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QMGTOOLS/QMGTOOLS) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

2. With the library successfully restored, proceed to the QMGTOOLS main menu by adding QMGTOOLS to the library list. ADDLIBLE QMGTOOLS
GO MG

Method 3 - Get the latest QMGTOOLS via iDoctor GUI interface
