Problem

This document describes the necessary information that needs to be collected to aid in quicker resolution for Coded Charecter Set Identifier (CCSID) issues.

Resolving The Problem

This document describes the necessary information that needs to be collected to aid in quicker resolution for Coded Charecter Set Identifier (CCSID) issues.

For issues concerning CCSID, this document includes the recommended data collection for debug. This is by no means all inclusive; however, it is meant as a starting point for document collection.

CCSID general issues specific MustGather information

If you encounter a general CCSID issue, collect the following information as it is related to the issue:
 
Manual Collection

PTF Information:

1. Issue WRKPTFGRP and press F6 to get a QSYSPRT spooled file
2. Issue DSPPTF OUTPUT(*PRINT)

General Information:

1. Issue DSPJOB OUTPUT(*PRINT)
2. Issue DSPJOBLOG OUTPUT(*PRINT)
3. Issue DSPUSRPRF USRPRF (user profile that executed the job) TYPE(*BASIC) OUTPUT(*PRINT)
4. Issue DSPDEVD DEVD (Name of the Display device used) OUTPUT(*PRINT)
5. Issue WRKSYSVAL OUTPUT(*PRINT)


Windows information:

1. What Windows version and service pack is used ?
2. What Windows code-page is used ?

A. Press Start Button
B. Press Run
C. Enter REGEDIT in the Open panel.
D. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Nls\CodePage
E. Check in the right panel and scroll down to the ACP Value, What value is listed ?

IBM i Access For Windows information:

1. Check what Host Code-page is configured for you PC5250 emulation session:

A. In your PC5250 session, click Communications and then click Configure.
B. At the bottom of that Configure PC5250 panel, you will find the value for Host Code-page. What is it ?

2. What version and service level is installed?

A. Click Start, Programs, IBM iSeries Access for Windows, iSeries Access for Windows Properties.
B. Check the General Tab. There, you will find the version and service level.

Physical File Information:

1. Issue DSPFD FILE (filename of PF) OUTPUT(*PRINT) .
2. Issue DSPFFD FILE (filename of PF) OUTPUT(*PRINT)
3. Create a screenshot of the character(s) that are incorrectly translated :

A. Issue the DSPPFM FILE(BESTAND) command, and press Enter.
B. Press F10.
C. Press F11.
D. Go to the character(s) that are incorrectly translated.
E. Press Alt-PrtSc.
F. Paste the screen (CTRL+V) into an MS-Word document or create a JPG file from it.

IFS File Information:

1. Perform a change directory to the directory where the IFS file is placed. For example, CD DIR('/home/data')
2. Issue WRKLNK
3. Go to the file involved, type 8 (Display attributes) before it, and press Enter. What value is listed for Coded character set ID?
4. Press Enter and type 5 (Display) before, and press Enter.
5. Press F10.
6. Go to the character(s) that are incorrectly translated.
7. Press Alt-PrtSc
8. Paste the screen (CTRL+V) into an MS-Word document or create a JPG file from it.

Non-System i File Information:

o Display the file on the platform where you see the incorrect translated character(s)
- Press Alt-PrtSc.
- Paste the screen (CTRL+V) into an MS-Word document or create a JPG file from it.

Recreates:

1. Save of Files involved

a. If file is on System i, you should save it to a SAVF.
b. If file is a non-System i file (Windows, AIX, and so on), you should zip the file.

Note: The debug will be easier if the number of records can be limited but still show us the issue.

2. Command Program used

Give us the complete system i command you used.
or
If you use a system i user program, send the complete program in a SAVF including re-create instructions.
or
If you use none of the above, you should inform us about the exact steps you perform (in other words, you use Windows as client and send/retrieve data to/from the System i as server).

** All spool files and save file generated from above steps needs to be sent to IBM. **
 
Direction for transferring files to IBM if MGTOOLS was NOT used
