Resolving The Problem
When attempting to install license keys directly from the Entitled Software Support ( ESS ) Web site, the following error is issued:
5008: An error occurred when communication with the iSeries machine. Please try again. If the problem repeats, please contact the IBM Key Center.
This message can be issued when attempting to directly install temporary license keys from the ESS Web site and the date format of the system does not match the date format of the temporary license key. Currently, the date format on the temporary license key is YYYY-MM-DD. In the United States, the most common date format on the system is MM-DD-YYYY. Either you can temporarily change the date format on the system to match the date format on the license key (not recommended), or manually install the keys, overriding the date format as needed.
If the message is issued when trying to install permanent license keys from the ESS Web site, you should verify the following:
1. | The host servers are installed on the system: a. GO LICPGM b. Select Option 10 Display installed licensed programs. c. Press F11 two times to Display the Product Option, and look for 57xxSS1 Product Option 12 for Host Server (where xx is 70 for V7R1, 61 for V6R1 and 22 for V5R4). If the host server option is not installed, you should locate the installation media, install this product option, and then reinstall the cumulative PTF package.
2. | The following host servers are started. STRHOSTSVR SERVER(*ALL) can be used to start the servers also:

3. | The QUSER user profile is enabled: WRKUSRPRF USRPRF(QUSER) Select Option 5=Display The Status should be *ENABLED
4. | The user profile being used to add the license keys needs to have *ALLOBJ authority . The recommendation is to use QSECOFR for this process. If the issue continues, you should report the issue to the License Key Center. In the US, call 1-800-446-8989 Option 1. For other countries, you should use the following link to determine the correct number to call and select Contacts from the panel on the left: https://www-05.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess/OpenServlet.wss, This will bring up a list of countries with the appropriate contact information. |
