Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

At V7R1M0, Electronic Service Agent (ESA) uses the QSJSENDER job to collect and transmit System i inventory to IBM.

Resolving the problem

At V7R1M0, Electronic Service Agent (ESA) uses the QSJSENDER job to collect and transmit System i inventory to IBM.

When ESA starts to collect inventory in V7R1 it is normal for the QSJSENDER job to utilize a large amount of CPU resources, provided there are no error messages found within the Service Agent Audit log, In addition, twenty to thirty minutes is considered normal for the QSJSENDER to complete successfully.

Issue the following commands to check the Service Agent audit log:
GO SERVICE
Option 14
Type B in the 'Position to line .....' to go to the bottom to verify no errors are found during inventory collection and sending.

Our recommendation is to schedule the daily inventory collection to run during a time period of the day where collection activity would have less of an impact on the system.

Issue the following command to change the setting for the Service Information Collect Time:
WRKJOBSCDE QS9SACOL
Option 2
Change the 'Scheduled time' to a more preferred time during the day.
