APAR Error Description / Circumvention
-------------------------------------------------
It is important to keep all systems in a BRMS network at the
same level of BRMS PTFs.
Fixes included in this PTF may reference enhancements . More
information on these enhancements can be found on the BRMS web
page:

Fixes in this PTF:
1. In V6R1 and above, when creating an archive control group,
some defaults are not set to *ARCPCY.
2. In V7R1 and above, the Go button next to the System name
combo box on the Communication tab of the Enterprise Add Node
panel in System Director Navigator for i does not perform any
action. The Go button has been removed.
3. In V5R4 and above, when using the Work with Media using BRM
(WRKMEDBRM) command with OUTPUT(*PRINT) and a generic selection
on the TEXT field, the volume list may be incomplete.
4. In V5R4 and above, when using the Restore Object using BRM
(RSTOBJBRM) command to restore objects that are journaled,
MSGMCH0603 may be posted to the joblog.
5. In V5R4 and above for tape and V6R1 and above for optical,
the DUPMEDBRM TOVOL parameter does not work correctly, it may
fail with MSGBRM1147 or the wrong volumes may be used.
6. In V5R4 and above, when running parallel restores, BRMS may
hang.
7. In V5R4 and above, when using the auto initialization on
expiration function, if a volume that uses retention type
versions is expired, the volume may not be auto initialized.
8. In V5R4 and above, when using the Move Spooled Files using
BRM (MOVSPLFBRM) command to move large number of spooled files,
all the spooled files may not be moved.
9. In V5R4 and above, when running the Work with Saved Objects
(WRKOBJBRM) command to display more than 9999 saved objects and
page up is pressed, message MSGRNX1255 and MSGCPF5021 may be
posted to the joblog.
10. In V6R1 and above, when setting an invalid value for the 'To
media policy' field in the 'Automatic duplication' section of a
media policy, it does not fail as expected.
11. In V7R1, saving or archiving of IFS data is slow.
12. In V5R4 and above, when doing a parallel restore from a tape
sequence greater than 9999, MSGBRM400C is posted to the joblog.
13. In V5R4 and above, when running DUPMEDBRM with VOL(*SCHHST),
MSGMCH6903 may occur if there are too many file sequences to
duplicate.
14. In V5R4 and above, when a save of QUSRBRM with save type
'*QBRM' is older than a save of QUSRBRM with save type '*CUML'
or '*INCR', the 'Recover BRMS Related Media Information' section
in the recovery report may be incorrect.
15. In V5R4 and above, DUPMEDBRM using parameter TOSEQNBR(1) has
been enhanced to check the input volume list for a SAVSYS media
at sequence 1 and duplicate that media first.
16. In V6R1 and above, when using tape devices or tape media
libraries, MSGMCH3402 may occur.
17. In V6R1 and above, when running BRMS functions that use tape
media, BRMS has been has been enhanced to reprocess volumes that
were previously unavailable, after an inquiry message is sent
regarding tape media.
18. In V5R4 and above, on expiring a volume in WRKMEDBRM via
option 7 and the media class has been set up to initialize on
expiration, if you try to change it to an active date it will
not work.
19. In V5R4 and above, when running STRBKUBRM that unmounts a
UDFS, a MSGCPFA09E may occur and the backup will abort with a
MSGBRM1820.
20. In V6R1 and above, when running STRBKUBRM with media class
overridden by '*SYSPCY', MSGBRM1713 may be posted to the joblog.
21. In V5R4 and above, MSGCPF5257 and MSGRNQ1299 may be posted
to the joblog of QBRMSYNC.
22. In V5R4 and above, Work with Media Information (WRKMEDIBRM)
option 9 on a parallel spoolfile save may cause MSGBRM1334.
23. In V5R4 and above, BRMS may not apply end of media options
(ENDOPT).
24. In V5R4 and above, when doing a parallel save of multiple
libraries, MSGBRM1148 may be sent to the joblog with the
incorrect library name if a library cannot be saved in parallel.
25. In V5R4 and above, Work with Media Information (WRKMEDIBRM)
option 9 on an IFS backup may cause MSGBRM1334 when using
FlashCopy Timestamps.
26. In V6R1 and above, the BRMS GUI client may fail with a
NullPointerException when displaying Global Policy Properties.
27. In V5R4 and above, BRMS is incorrectly adding omits to *IBM
saves when *NOCMTBDY is specified for save-while-active.
28. In V6R1 and above, BRMS has been enhanced to send MSGBRM1483
in addition to MSGCPF4372 for volumes that are not mounted on
tape libraries that have bar code readers.
29. In V5R4 and above, when *IBM is saved with save-while-active
in a backup control group with *NOCMTBDY specified for the
'Pending record changes' field, MSGCPF37AC may be posted to the
joblog.
Note: With this PTF, the 'Pending record changes' value will be
set to the same value as the 'Other pending changes' field.
30. In V5R4 and above, the BRMS GUI client may display an
incorrect value for the 'Disk pool high storage threshold' field
on the 'Global Policy Properties - Retrieval - Advanced' panel.
31. In V5R4 and above, the Start Maintenance for BRM (STRMNTBRM)
command or Start Recovery for BRM (STRRCYBRM) command may not
end when printing recovery reports.
32. In V5R4 and above, MSGCPF4101 may be posted in the QBRMSYNC
joblog which indicates file QTEMP/SYNTAPOPD was not found.
33. In V6R1 and above, BRMS has added support for Fully
Qualified Domain Names (FQDN) via the Relational Database
support (*RDB). Please see the BRMS web page for more details
on how to implement.
34. In V6R1 and above, the BRMS GUI client may not sort or
display the correct values for Save History 'Mark for
duplication' and 'Duplicated item' fields.
35. In V6R1 and above, you can now get a retention section on
the PRTRPTBRM command with a TYPE of *CTLGRPSTAT and a CTLGRP
parameter not equal to *NONE. The retention section will start
on a new page and have *RETENTION to start the section with
*FULL and *INCR in the Start and End Date columns. Under this
will be all the control groups that are in the report and their
current retention for full and incremental saves.
To enable this, the user must create this data area once per
job:
CRTDTAARA DTAARA(QTEMP/Q1ARPTRETN) TYPE(*CHAR)
36. In V6R1 and above, when the Restore Object using BRM
(RSTOBJBRM) command is used to restore objects, the restore may
fail with MSGCPF37C1.
37. In V6R1 and above, when applying the BRMS PTF the QBRMSYNC
job may take a lot of CPU.
38. In V5R4 and above, Display ASP Information using
BRM(DSPASPBRM) may not show sizes for a varied-on IASP.
39. In V5R4 and above, BRMS jobs may be hung in SIGW status.
Enterprise specific fixes for V7R1:
1. In V7R1 and above, if license program 5770TS1 option 1 is not
installed on a system defined as an Enterprise Hub, no errors
are posted to indicate why reports were not sent as email
attachments.
2. In V7R1 and above, when adding a new Enterprise Node, the
output queue properties are not set to valid defaults and a
"Data not valid" error is posted when the radio button is
selected.
3. In V7R1 and above, Enterprise has been enhanced to support
the PRTRPTBRM command in report definitions.
4. In V7R1 and above, when changing a report definition, the
command and parameters may not be saved.
5. In V7R1 and above, when a report definition is run, it may
fail with MSGCPF3303 and MSGBRM8012.
6. In V7R1, the Hub Center panel incorrectly displays the
'Release' as '*NONE' and the 'BRMS Status' as 'Not connected'
when the node is communicating.
CORRECTION FOR APAR 'SE55218' :
-------------------------------
Load and apply this PTF.
After the BRMS PTF is installed, do the following to enable the
BRMS
plug-in for the IBM Systems Director Navigator for i5/OS (web
brower)
or System i Navigator windows client.
Enable the BRMS plug-in for the IBM Systems Director Navigator
for i5/OS.
==== V6R1 and newer only:
Note: ending the http admin servers may affect other non-BRMS
users.
From System i:
1. Enter the command to end the http admin servers:
endtcpsvr server(*http) httpsvr(*admin)
2. Wait for the http admin server jobs to end or terminate
them.
Use command: wrkactjob sbs(qhttpsvr)
3. Restart the http admin servers:
strtcpsvr server(*http) httpsvr(*admin)

Enable the BRMS plug-in for System i Navigator Windows/OS
client.
==== Pre-V6R1:
1) Close the System i Navigator application.
2) On the client/PC, uninstall the BRMS plug-in using the
Client
Access Express "Selective Setup" utility: from the
Windows
"Start", select
"Programs->IBM iSeries Access for Windows->Selective
Setup".
Follow the instructions on the dialogs to uninstall the
BRMS
plug-in. Notes:
a) On the second dialog, select the radio button "Ignore.
I'm
only going to UN-install components".
b) On the next screen, "Component Selection", open the
System i Navigator folder; a list of all installed
System i Navigator components and plug-ins is displayed.
c) Deselect the BRMS plug-in to uninstall it (if you do
not
see the BRMS plug-in, it was not properly installed);
reboot the PC if requested.
3) Start System i Navigator.
4) Use the System i Navigator "Install Options->Install
Plug-in"
action. This action is available from the main iSeries
Navigator "File" menu and the "My Connections" folder
context/pop-up menu. When prompted for the iSeries system
to install from, select the iSeries that has the new BRMS
PTF installed.
=== V6R1 and newer:
1) Close the System i Navigator application.
2) Open a Windows Command Prompt screen.
3) Enter the following command:
cwbinplg /REMOVE=IBM.BRMSPlugin
4) On the client/PC, start the iSeries Navigator.
5) Use the System i Navigator "Install Options->Install
Plug-in"
action. This action is available from the main System i
Navigator "File" menu and the "My Connections" folder
context/pop-up menu. When prompted for the iSeries system
to install from, select the iSeries that has the new BRMS
PTF installed.
