APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-------------------------------------------------
Overall BRMS statement: When running a BRMS network and the PTF
levels are not the same, the centralized media audit may
incorrectly flag media as being out of synchronization between 2
systems. Ideally, we recommend to have them all at the same
level.

01. When running the Manage Tape Library Connections, on doing
an update to a remote system a MSGCPF67DD maybe sent due to a
special value being used on the CRTTAPCGY.  In addition, also
not handling not found (ejected) cartridges correctly.

02.  The BRMS synchronous job posts an MSGRNQ1218 error message
about file access when BRMS does a remote duplication.

03. In V5R4 and above, there may be a MSGBRM1488 in the joblog
when running a backup.

05. In V6R1 and above, while doing a backup in restricted state
you may get a MSGSQ99999 RC 10.

06.  In V5R4 and above, DLTLICPGM can fail for the BR1 product
with a
MSGCPF2167.

07. In V6R1 and above, if using the BRMS client to update the
BRMS system name, the update may store a corrupted BRMS system
name.

09.  In V6R1 and above, DUPMEDBRM does not support generic file
groups. This has now been added. Here is the help text:
Specify the generic name of the file group whose volume you want
to be duplicated. A generic name is a character string that
contains one or more characters followed by an asterisk (*).
If an * is not specified with the name, the name is assumed to
be a complete file group name.

10.  In release V5R4 and above, support to allow initialization
on expiration has been added to the BR1 product. This option can
be used to free disk storage for virtual media technologies.
Initialization will occur during the STRMNTBRM process and will
require the media to be mounted on a device.

To turn on this option to initialize on expiration during
STRMNTBRM:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD  PARM('INZONEXP '  '*SET      '  'media class'
'Y')

To turn off this option to initialize on expiration during
STRMNTBRM:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD  PARM('INZONEXP '  '*SET      '  'media class'
'N')

To display all media classes that have this option turned on:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD  PARM('INZONEXP '  '*DISPLAY  ')

To remove all media classes that have this option turned on:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('INZONEXP ' '*CLEAR    ')

Restriction: In releases IBM i 7.1 and earlier, there will be no
synchronization of this behavior to other systems in the BRMS
network.  Each system wishing to use this new function will need
to run the commands above. In releases following IBM i 7.1, this
restriction will be removed.

Note: These initialize on expiration interfaces will only be
available in releases IBM i 7.1 and earlier. In releases
following IBM i 7.1, a similar interface will be provided on the
BRMS media class.
The following PTFs or their superseding PTFs are required:

* 7.1    SI46340
* V6R1M0 SI46339
* V5R4M0 SI46335

12. On releases V5R4 and above, if the 'Enable dynamic retrieval
of storage freed objects.' checkbox for an archive control group
is unchecked, using the BRMS client, it will not be saved.

13. In V6R1 and above, multiple media sets can occur if movement
is running while a backup is in progress.

15. In V5R4 and above, when running MOVSPFLBRM to move spool
files, there may be errors with MSGBRM1F48 or MSGBRM1F49.

16. In V5R4 and above, if ADDMLMBRM is called to add more than
one volume to a media library (MLB) on a remote system, it will
fail with message MSGCPF4174.

17. In V6R1 and above, save minutes is wrong in the Display
Backup Analysis.
GO BRMBKUANL option 3.

18. In V6R1 and above, after expiring a volume with WRKMEDBRM
option 7, the backup still received a MSGBRM148A which indicates
no media available.

19. In V6R1 and above, the behavior of the View report function
in the BRMS GUI client for the Web has been improved. BRMS shows
a panel to allow open the report or save it to a file; this
panel should be closed after viewing the report to continue with
other BRMS operations. This avoids the panel to be displayed
multiple times.

20.  In V5R4 and above, archive does not work with BRMS object
lists that contain IFS objects that start and end with more than
2 quotes.  This includes all archive IFS object lists that were
created using the BRMS client.

21.  In V6R1 and above, when saving QUSRBRM that is grouped with
other libraries and saved in a serial-parallel format, QUSRBRM
does not show up in WRKMEDIBRM.

22. In V5R4 and above, when multiple jobs are saving data to
virtual volumes, some of the jobs may fail with MSGCPF41B0.

23.  In V5R4 and above, WRKMEDBRM option 5 on a volume, shows
wrong data for the file group and group type, if the volume was
used by a control group that   had a spoolfile list as the 1st
entry or if the save spans to other volumes.

24.  In V5R4 and above, the WRKPCYBRM *SYS option 4 shows a
system status of offline for systems which are online and
communicating successfully.

25. In V6R1 and above, the BRMS GUI client displays html reports
as left to right for languages that should be right to left.

26.  In V5R4 and above, when restoring objects remotely using
non-secure DDM, there may be a failure with MSGCPF5134

27.  In V5R4 and above, if the system policy set to receive
history information, active history information may be
incorrectly deleted when STRMNTBRM is run.

29.  In V5R4 and above, when running remote duplication, the
history generated is sent to systems in the BRMS network that do
not receive media information.

30. In V6R1 and above, BRMS has enhanced the PRTRPTBRM command
to support a new report type   *CTLGRPSTAT.
*CTLGRPSTAT

This report provides summarized information about all
backup control
groups that have been processed by BRMS and meet the
selection
criteria.

There is also a new CTLGRP parm that is not ignored when the
report type is *CTLGRPSTAT.
It can be set to one of these values:

*ALL

All backups produced by running STRBKUBRM will be
included in this report.
Note: The output generated by CTLGRP(*NONE) will not be

included in this report.

*SYSTEM

Backups produced by the *SYSTEM control group will be
included in
the report.

*BKUGRP

Backups produced by the *BKUGRP control group will be
included in
the report.

*SYSGRP

Backups produced by the *SYSGRP control group will be
included in
the report.

*NONE

Backups produced by running SAVxxxBRM commands will be
summarized in
the report.  This includes SAVxxxBRM
commands that were associated to a control group.

generic*-control group-name
Specify the generic name of the control group to be included in
the
report.. A generic name is a character string that
contains one or
more characters followed by an asterisk (*).  If an * is
not
specified with the name, the name is assumed to be a
complete
control group name.

name

Specify the name of the control group to be included in
the report

Note: *CTLGRPSTAT is only valid on control groups that are run
AFTER the below PTFs are applied besides using  CTLGRP(*NONE) ,
which is valid on older backups.

The following BRMS PTFs or their superseding PTFs are required:

7.1 SI46340
V6R1M0 SI46339

31. In V5R4 and above, *SAVCFG and *SAVSECDTA saved items are
incorrectly added to media information when command ADDMEDIBRM
is run to add media information from a volume with *SAVSYS
specified for the Type (TYPE) parameter.

32. In V5R4 and above, when running a backup that appends and
chooses a tape that has a bad file sequence on it, the backup
may fail with a MSGCPF410A or MSGCPF4144.
