Application of this PTF may disable or render ineffective programs that
use system memory addresses not generated by the IBM translator,
including programs that circumvent control technology designed to limit
interactive capacity to purchased levels.  This PTF may be a prerequisite
for future PTFs.  By applying this PTF you authorize and agree to the
foregoing.

This PTF is subject to the terms of the 'IBM License Agreement for Machine

APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-------------------------------------------------
A partition hangs during device error recovery.  The SRC
A6xx0266 (e.g., SRCA6000266) would typically be displayed.

CORRECTION FOR APAR 'MA47625' :
-------------------------------
A non-critical task is taking a page fault on its stack while
using a critical work queue.  This causes deadlock on the queue,
between that task and critical recovery, such as recovery for
the load source device.  With this fix, all tasks will run on
resident (non-pageable) stacks while accessing this queue.

This problem is far more likely to occur on partitions that use
I/O devices attached to virtual adapters.   In particular,
partitions that have both (1) disk devices and (2) tape and/or
optical devices attached to virtual adapters can encounter the
mix of critical and non-critical error recovery described above,
when outages in the hosting partition occur.  Partitions in this
environment should apply this PTF as soon as possible.  In this
situation, the PTF should also be permanently applied.

This issue has never been seen on partitions that use only
physical I/O adapters assigned directly to the partition - in
that case customers may wish to avoid disruption to their
business and wait for the next maintenance window to apply this
fix.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR 'MA47625' :
----------------------------------
To limit exposure to this issue in a virtual I/O environment,
customers should avoid actions that cause temporary outages of
the hosting partition (such as rebooting a VIOS server or
performing Logical Partition Mobility) until this PTF is
applied.  Unscheduled outages cannot be completely prevented,
but this will reduce risk of the exposure.
