MA47317 - LIC-DB-OTHER-PERFM REDUCE SYSTEM OVERHEAD WHEN RAPIDLY CREATING AND DELETING TABLES

 APAR (Authorized Program Analysis Report)

Abstract

LIC-DB-OTHER-PERFM REDUCE SYSTEM OVERHEAD WHEN RAPIDLY CREATING
AND DELETING TABLES

Error Description

When a new table is created, database attempts to determine the
average read response time associated with it for use during
query optimization. Part of this process can result in
temporary storage segments being created, extended, and
truncated. If tables are created and deleted rapidly, this
overhead can be significant.

Problem Summary

Please see the ERROR DESCRIPTION section.

Problem Conclusion

Changes were made to use the average read response time of the
ASP that very small or empty tables reside on, reducing system
overhead.
