Abstract
OSP-OTHER-THREADS-INCORROUT SYSTEM HANG ON CTL QPACTL01 MSCP
WAITING ON GATE LOCKED BY SNAPC2QPAIRSTATIC
Error Description
jobs/tasks waiting for a seize on controller description
QPACTL01 That job was waiting for a seize on module #mscptsk
which was held by task MSCP. MSCP had been waiting for almost
4.4 hours on a gate locked by module SnaPc2QPairStatic
Problem Summary
System hang. Jobs waiting for a seize on controller QPACTL01.
That job was waiting for a seize on module #mscptsk which was
held by task MSCP. MSCP had been waiting for hours on a gate
locked by module SnaPc2QPairStatic.
If a user is logged on, they may run fine. If not, they are
unable to log in. APPC, Enterprise Extender, and other
communications controllers may also stop responding to user
requests such as vary on or vary off due to MSCP task deadlock.
Eventually the console hangs so they have to do a main store
dump and IPL to recover.
Problem Conclusion
System deadlock on a LIC SNA component gate which is used to
serialize access to FID2 path control for an APPC controller and
updates to its FID5 path control list for HPRIP/RTP connections.
One of the routines in the RTP connection take down and bring up
path invoked to perform HPR path switches attempted to obtain
the shared and exclusive lock out of order causing deadlock. The
ordering problem has been fixed by removing the unneeded shared
lock and replacing it with a single exclusive lock request.
