Abstract
OSP-PERFM MEMORY POOL MANAGEMENT DEFECT RESULTING IN PAGE
STEALING AND EXCESSIVE CPU USAGE.
Error Description
algorithm used for memory management can effect performance.
Problem Summary
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM: (MA44475) Licensed Program = 5770999 for i 7.2 *
* Severe Performance Degradation *
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: All IBM i operating system users. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: Apply LIC PTF MF59902 for i 7.2. *
****************************************************************
QPFRADJ can not move memory fast enough to prevent excessive
paging in some memory pools. The reason is that the page move
algorithm has left the memory pools with too little memory on
some nodes to allow efficient movement of memory from one pool
to another.
Problem Conclusion
The code is corrected to move memory such that the physical
makeup of a pools memory matches the partitions physical memory
layout. This will allow for the most efficient movement of
memory from one pool to another.
