Only the first gnome-terminal job is in RUN state if submitting several gnome-terminal jobs

Technote (FAQ)

Question

You use "bsub -Ip gnome-terminal" to submit several jobs but "bjobs -a" shows that only the first gnome-terminal job is in RUN state while others are in DONE state.

Answer

This is the correct behavior of LSF. A gnome server is started by a single gnome-terminal command and subsequent gnome-terminals will share that same gnome server. By default, LSF marks the gnome-terminal that starts the gnome server as RUN and the others as DONE.
